A frequent downtown in Lake Eola often but in all my years of living here I've never actually seen this kind of bird.
I was just walking my dog around the lake and saw those too! I had never seen them either, so I went home to look them up. Apparently they are Egyptian Geese.

NBA is different. You go get a
Shaun Kempor Lebron or a college grad in MJ or Shaq and you build a franchise around them. Add in a couple of free agents and you've got a playoff team.Damn that's easy. How does a team get a top 3 drafted player like that?
7 hours ago, jrs2 said:[I]n the NBA there are things that have to be done a certain way to win and they just ain't doing them.
Which things would those be? What currently needs to be done differently?
7 hours ago, jrs2 said:It is a top down thing. That is why UF fired Dan Mullen and hired Billy Napier, because he is restructuring the entire football operation at UF, which eventually affects the locker room, individual players, and individual performance, thus wins and losses.
Gotcha. So we should restructure by getting rid of the old administration and and move on from the mistakes that were made in the past. Kind of like what happened when the Orlando Magic got rid of Rob Hennigan and his mediocre players and set up a foundation for long term success rather than wins (and a first round playoff exit) right now.

Ah you do get it.

How many times have we heard this again? It’s like a worn out recording of a favorite song, to quote Bertie Higgins. Results matter.
I don't know. How many times have you heard this? The results are there if you know what you're looking for.

Embrace incompetence, right?!?
You're out of your element. This is the first time in years that the administration hasn't looked incompetent. The DeVos family sucks. The MEC is a joke. John Hammond and Jeff Weltman are making all the right moves with what they've been given to work with and they're doing very well.

And they STILL lost.
Yep, just like Spencer posted. The injury-depleted Orlando Magic lost to the reigning world champions Milwaukee Bucks. An absolute shocker.

You don't need SI or The Athletic to see that the Magic have an abundance of potential. Even though they're losing, the team is highly entertaining and the flashes greatness are apparent.

Large artwork to be added to the entrance ramp of the pedestrian bridge at Colonial. At a full 35 feet tall it should serve as a beautiful beacon to the junkies and homeless encampment at that location.
What an absolutely uninspired and meaningless waste of money.

Creative City considering moving “Immerse” art event out of downtown
QuoteAccording to NeSmith, Creative City management has been having exploratory conversations with industry colleagues about the future of the festival, with one of the options being an “Olympic-style bid process” that could take the event to different communities in the region or beyond who are making investments in their downtowns and looking for more placemaking opportunities.
To sum it up: They need more money and nothing is final.
It would be a shame to lose it. It is a great time and a real boost to Orlando's culture, imo.

Meanwhile, another big Orlando holiday tradition begins tomorrow at 5:45pm when OUC welcomes the season with the huge sign atop the Cheney Power Station on Lake Ivanhoe. Don’t miss it!
Hopefully whoever ends up buying that place continues the tradition. I'd hate for this to be the last year.

Virginia Drive from Mills to Orange Ave is narrow and flanked by trees and utility poles. I can't imagine they can do much of anything without a major overhaul.

I don’t know if Radius did this on purpose but when you are on the pool deck you can hang by the pool and look over bustling downtown facing South, or walk under the Eastern units built on that level to the Sky Lounge outside area (or whatever it’s name, I guess I better start learning them) which faces North and is more quiet and shows Orlando’s green canopy. A get away of sorts.
Looking forward to moving in this week!
Do you think you could take a picture or two from the pool deck for us? Congrats on the new apartment!

Looks good. Is this the final product sans pool water and tenants?

Too hot for a plaza to have palm trees instead of shade trees, but great pics.

Should be interesting when that sail catches hurricane force winds and takes the building to Jacksonville. Or maybe it will only be extra wobbly.

The Yard releases amended plans now that Hideaway Bar is moving across the street
I'm really hoping this next step sets off some development on Brookhaven Drive, since one of my favorite buildings in the area isn't getting the love it deserves. As far as I can tell, it will be spared demolition and I'd be pleased as punch if someone renovated it.

An Urban Target or grocery store would do really well in that spot with it being only a 10 minute walk from the North Quarter and the UCF campus.

I've said it before, but that parking garage is an absolute waste of potential. Not that the future residents of Radius would want another tall building blocking their view of the lake.
Hopefully someone will eventually squeeze another mid-rise into the lots next to the Radius building and finally get rid of surface parking on the NE corner of Robinson and Rosalind.

If you keep the density between Parramore and Rosalind, it will take 100 years at this rate to build that area out.
Do cities not benefit from the dense housing and its necessary infrastructure built 100 years ago?

@elefantsSo I'm trying to understand what you're saying: SFH shouldn't be built on vacant lots or should existing single family housing stock in Thornton Park and Lake Eola Heights be razed to make way for multifamily?
New builds should not be SFH. No reason to raze perfectly good homes.
7 hours ago, nite owℓ said:That would be great. As for the bungalows, no reason to raze perfectly good homes.

Agreed. Without getting too political, that'll not go away until it's addressed on a federal level.

Do you feel that way about South Eola, Thorton Park, Eola Heights...?
I know it's unpopular, but yes I do.
34 minutes ago, AmIReal said:Parramore is a lot more than just Church St and Parramore Ave. The area between 408 and Gore and Parramore to OBT is very well suited for sfh.
It may be suited for it now, but it will become increasingly less so as condos and apartments encroach on OBT. Parramore land is still the cheapest around downtown and is laid out well for density. Gentrification is coming and single family homes are the least efficient way to create the housing stock needed to slow it down.

Talk to Habitat For Humanity sometime and get back to us. That would have been the ideal solution for Parramore
Single-family homes don't belong in an urban core. Full stop.

What absolute tool cheers on the losses of the hometown team? What point are you trying to make? Are you hoping the DeVos family stumbles upon this tiny forum, reads your heckling and changes their ways? Several other members have called you out for being a petulant, repetative child and I've brushed it off since you contribute to the forum in other ways. You are a truly unlikable person and it will give me great pleasure to ignore you.
