I do about half my work from the basement floors of this building and am often looped into the building operations side of things. There’s no plans for demolition and I have been assured by engineers as recently as earlier this year that it is structurally sound, although there have been plenty of other problems (water, electrical, etc) inside. There are only three buildings in the country of this design and as far as I know, none of them have collapsed so I would file that under urban legend. It’s such a cool exterior that I would hate to see it go.

Our old meet spot! I actually really liked that building, although I’m excited about this new one too.

Yes…the state’s GOP is acting like spoiled brats…but to act like the Dem Party wouldn’t do the same damn thing is absolutely stunning. Either you guys are so partisan you can’t see what’s happening in this nation coming from the left…or you just don’t care. If you don’t think the right hates the left as much as you guys hate the right…and have just as many reasons to throw out there to show the stupidity of the left…then you’re misinformed. You guys think the city should be able to do whatever it thinks is best for the city without thinking of the state or the dominant political party in the state…but would be ticked if it were the other way around.
Even though I don’t want a political convention here…what do you expect when a liberal city in a massive red state won’t fully consider the other party’s convention?
You guys remind me, once again, why this site fails when it doesn’t have to.
List the comparable reasons.

Over 40 years ago I got off the train in New York and walked a few blocks, then decided I need to pee. I walked into the offife building I was walking by and suddenly realized from looking at the elevators that I had walked unaware into the Empire State Building. VIEW there only counts around Cental Park. You have been accustomed to that as one of two most spectacular angles looking into the core. Such luxury is not a protected privilege and never will be here in Nashville except maybe the views of Capitol Hill from the North.
Pretty sure PillowTalk was joking.

I randomly met the director and was interviewed for this French documentary about Nashville a couple years ago. Looks like I didn't make the cut, but it was just released this week:

Amtrak released a map for their 2035 expansion. It includes Nashville, but as a one-off arm from Atlanta. It'd be great if we could connect to Chicago via Louisville...

The Memphis metro area includes parts of Mississippi and Arkansas, and we share long borders with Kentucky, Alabama, North Carolina, and Georgia. I personally have family that move frequently between places like Lauderdale County, Alabama and Giles/Lawrence county TN. So I wouldn’t think the moves involving border states are of the same demographic significance as some of the others. Discounting those states, the list is more like 1. Florida, 2 Texas, 3. California, 4. Illinois.
I know it’s not something that necessarily shows up in data but my sister works retail in Williamson county and says that probably a quarter of the people she serves self identify as having moved from California. She says the people she works with despise them because they’re super pretentious and act like we’re backwards hillbillies. I personally don’t know many Californians so I don’t have much beef with them, besides just general irritation that housing prices are skyrocketing (which isn’t obviously a Californian-specific issue).Fun fact: Tennessee is the state that borders the most other states (Tied with MO at 8 states).

There have been ongoing major plumbing leaks and moisture issues in the floors below TPAC (old TN State museum). There’s been a project for the past several months to remove the state collection out of the building because it’s no longer considered safe for storage. It’s a great looking building but not really usable for anything anymore.

The exterior of 1 Hotel is going to be covered in 10-15’ flowing ivy on the lobby level, which should really add some life to all this glass and cement. A friend of mine is in charge of the greenhouses that are supplying all the plants for this hotel. The rooms themselves are to be filled with all sorts of tropical plants as well. I’m excited to see how it comes together.

During and just after grad school, I worked for an academic non-profit that promoted the academic study of the American founding and the early history of the United States. We mostly hosted conferences, worked with universities to endow chairs in History, Political Science, and Philosophy departments, publish academic journals, that sort of thing. But, because of the nature of the organization, we often worked very, very closely with museums and the organizations behind them...and what you say is extremely true with only a very few exceptions. For a museum and the associated support organization to be successful, it needs a significant amount of government support and a large endowment from a sponsoring individual or organization. And even then, they require huge amounts of donations every year to stay afloat. Museums can't be stagnant, they have to constantly be considering how to update and develop exhibits, improve collections (not just taking on new stuff but managing what they have properly), and pay enough to attract quality staff.
Fort Negley would be an awesome site for a Tennessee Museum of the Civil War. Honestly, if done correctly you could just turn it in to the Tennessee Museum of Military History at Fort Negley. But, with the new State Museum having a rather comprehensive Civil War exhibit, I doubt we'll be seeing the sort of support from the State we would really need to see. The best hope for good facilities on the site would be a large grant from State and Federal government combined with a large private donation, and a long-term funding agreement from the city and a long-term fundraising development strategy that doesn't rely on admission fees. All of this will require a concerted lobbying effort to get state and US legislators on board with the project as well as a dedicated development team to get the ball rolling, and that is most certainly not being done right now.
with recent expenditures at our current museum and archives, I wouldn't count on any state money being earmarked for new museums for the foreseeable future, unfortunately.

They had their opening event on Halloween Night, although it was only in the venue section. Last I heard, there’s a small section of flooring still missing and the materials are held up in the supply chain, and inspectors won’t let them fully open until that last bit is laid down. Everything else has been ready to go for a month or more.

Interesting. It seems that someone came out from one of the bars and jumped onto the tavern and then fell. So I guess more due diligence should be exercised by people to obtain more facts before reacting so they don't fall victim to misinformation.
It’s obvious from the video too. The narrator had already started filming, so already an incident was underway. Then the narrator shouts, “do they even know him?” Then he walks away from everyone after. But everyone jumps to the conclusion that the pedal tavern had overserved him, which doesn’t fit at all.

I just saw someone post a photo on Facebook of a new “ride” that a group called King of Hustler Nashville is driving around Nashville. I think King of Hustler may be some kind of Male Dance Club for bachelorette parties…and this ride is a huge (body part) with a saddle on it…kind of like a mechanical bull. I would post a photo…but it’s definitely not suitable for work. However…it’s driving around on Lower Broadway.
Anyone seen this thing? I can’t believe something like that is allowed. Really in poor taste and kinda takes us to a new low.
I saw that. I'm pretty sure it was just being transported. Looks like King Of Hustler is a new male strip club and I guess that'll be their mechanical bull? It's not a downtown "transportainment" thing though. And if it is, we should riot.
