Looks like they're aiming for an opening within the next month...
"(Outdoor Farmer's Market) should start on Sept. 26th or 27th. Indoor Market plans to open Oct. 31st."
Picture of the indoor market as of this morning. On a positive note.... They were stocking the shelves of the ABC Store this morning on Granby.

Some opening and closing in downtown Norfolk:
Opening soon:
ABC Store is moving along at 143 Granby St (old Smoothie King location). Looks like it could be open very soon. Perhaps week or so.
Granby Station Food Hall at 100 Block of Granby. Due open late June or early July
Chicho's Pizza at 320 Granby St (old FM or Backstage location). Opening in Aug
Chesapeake Bay Market at 300 E. Main... last word I heard opening late Aug. I have my doubts as nothing appears to be happening. Inside has been untouched.
Recently Closed:
Muscle Maker Grill at 147 Granby St is currently closed.
Humboldt Steel at 150 Boush St is closed.- 1

Also start looking into getting a tech company here, or a fiber company. That's one thing downtown lacks IMO, outside of the startups.
I'm curious.... What is a fiber company?

Possible new Barcade coming to downtown Norfolk at 258 Granby St. The Circuit Norfolk.
One is currently in Richmond. https://www.thecircuitarcadebar.com
I love the concept and believe it would be a hit.

Here's the Pilot article on the food hall. I know it brings more foot traffic downtown, think the NEON District would've been a better location. Like others said, it's not exactly a prominent location, and parking over there is tough, outside of the one garage.

The Neon district does not have the people to support this IMHO. How is the 100 block of Granby not a prominent location?

This could complement the bars and clubs nicely, esp. if they stay open later. Downtown could use more late night food options.
Remember just five years ago when businesses were complaining about food trucks?
The downtown Civic League would probably shut that down. They have opposed the last two restaurants that have applied for late night hours.

The City of Norfolk is hoping to get someone to take over the empty spots on Granby Street across from the Main.

Personally, i don't think they are going to get many (if any) takers. The storefronts are under a parking garage and are set WAY far back, so much so that you don't even notice it from the road. Did anyone actually walk next to the storefronts, except when it was raining? Did anyone actually notice, or shop at, the stationery store that was there?
I believe this would make a great outdoor style cafe with the overhang. Very roomy and out of the rain. Unlike much of Granby St.

Congratulations to you then. I guess I should move out of downtown since I don't like the street activity there.

Applebee's on Monticello Avenue open on Monday October 9th. The place looks decent but I'm curious how it will do next door to the 7-Eleven.
There is also a new place going in next door to 219 Bistro on Granby. A poke place ( raw fish salads/bowls) and deserts. Edible Arrangements used to be there.

UrbanIce is the name I believe. Serving ice cream, crepes and coffee. I stopped in a few nights ago and they wanted $6.50 for a dish of ice cream. They are set up to operate like Stone Cold.

Just returned from Waterside.... my thoughts: Very Nice and very busy! I enjoy the openness of the Market. Had dinner at Blue Moon. Ate the fish & chips and it was ok at best. While we ate outside, we could only order drinks outside and had to go to the bar to order food and they packaged it up in to-go packages. The wait staff were very nice but you could tell they were overwhelmed. One odd thing I found was no entrance into PBR from the market. I may have missed it, but it appears you only enter from the front outside???
Will return tomorrow night when I can stay out a bit later. I'm expecting a madhouse.

Thanks. I'll try to get out there and observe a little of that. I have never seen a larger old building like that undergo that process.
I just heard that this has been delayed now.

They will be jacking up the building during the weekend of March 31st.

While this has to be one of the slowest project's that I have seen, it appears that Leone's @ 455 Granby St may be nearing completion (at least on the inside). They still have to work on the outside seating area in the rear of the building.
-
That's great news! I've been hoping one would open at the old Max & Erma's location.
-
Lamia's Crepes is set to open this week. The inside appears to be complete and the outdoor seating area is currently being put together today. It should be a nice addition to downtown.
-
Thou Shalt Grow is reporting a possible new 7-eleven at 150 Granby St. I'm torn on this for the one on Monticello gets iffy once the sun goes down. Of course the Tide station doesn't help with that either.

Granby St Downtown:
California Burrito had a soft opening Sunday.
Jack Browns Beer & Burger Joint // Benny Damato's may open by the end of this week. -
Empire Little Bar Bistro will close next month....
Brick Anchor Brew House opens to the public this Saturday.
BonChon Chicken has had no movement in some time now other than signage in the Windows.

Does anyone know the status of the Italian Restaurant on the corner of Charlotte and Granby?
Construction appears to go in spurts. I believe it has been under construction since this time last year. Am I wrong?
Even seems longer to me. I believe they have some drywall downstairs, but upstairs appears to be framed only. My guess is sometime this summer. Sign in the window says Fall (2015).

Any hearsay on any supermarkets coming to downtown Norfolk??? I heard 2 interested party's visited the old Farm Fresh location in Harbor Heights this week. Downtown so needs this to happen.
-
Anyone know any details on the old La Galleria Restorante building on College Place? Appears workers are on currently on site (perhaps gutting it). Permits in the window shows the owners as Wave Church. Not sure if they just purchased it or if they always owned it.
