I officially hate this project...if for nothing else than the fact that it doesn't cover the whole of the parking deck. WHAT ARE THEY DOING? Why is this one 20ft sliver of parking deck not covered by the building? It truly upsets me.

Hopefully the third parking deck will cover that and the second parking deck! :tw_joy:

I agree that the homeless/addict problem has gotten much worse in the last few years, especially in Forth Ward where I also live.  Vandalism and threats of physical violence are increasingly common, and I now avoid parks altogether, even in daylight.  I go out of my way to walk down more-traveled streets, and I’m always hyper-vigilant at night.  I get aggressively panhandled walking to and from work at least once each way every day, and I’ve lost track of the death threats.

I lived in fourth ward for 4 years and I dealt with my fair share of panhandling - but I never got any death threats - that's wild.

The '2501 The Plaza' project (https://42floors.com/us/nc/charlotte/2501-the-plz) was created as  a project with the county plan review department on 5/9.  Id guess we're a month or so away from demo then construction.

Right across the street from where these signs just went up this week (2501 in the background). I assume construction of these homes will begin very soon to deliver by Fall of this year.

Rhino Market has finally opened and it looks like there are a couple of additional retail spots in that building.  Pho @ Noda looks very close as well.  Going to be interesting to see this part of the street with more retail

In addition to the original NoDa opening back up

Cushman and Wakefield is out with their 1Q 2019 office market reports.  Interesting to note is that they are reporting BofA has renewed their lease in Bank of America Plaza  And that Parker Poe which is over at 3 Wells Fargo is moving to Legacy 1 Bank of America Tower which means that would be their 3rd tenant there after the bank and EY.

Maybe I missed this in another thread but I hadn't heard that EY was moving there - I that confirmed?

One more thing about this merger their footprint is one of the best in the country top 3 market share in most states in the southeast the fastest growing region in the country.

Look at this map of just their DC area branches.  My mom worked for United VA Bank long bought out by SunTrust

    https://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2019/02/07/suntrust-and-bb-t-bank-are-merging-here-are-all.html?ana=e_ae_set1&s=article_du&ed=2019-02-07&u=oAaDx%2B74FoP4qOJ%2By4AU6dhJPpc&t=1549584708&j=86535711

and a huge number of wealthy counties surround DC of course.

From one of the many articles about the merger in the Business Journal today is this:

8th Fortune 500 HQ for the Charlotte region

""The addition of the BB&T-SunTrust bank to the Charlotte region's list of Fortune 500 corporations with headquarters here would bring the total to eight. Already based in the region are Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC), Lowe’s Cos. Inc. (NYSE: LOW), Duke Energy Corp. (NYSE: DUK), Nucor Corp. (NYSE: NUE), Sonic Automotive Inc. (NYSE: SAH) and Sealed Air Corp. (NYSE: SEE). Honeywell International Inc. (NYSE: HON), which announced about three months ago that it would bring its headquarters to Charlotte in the near future, will be No. 7. And the soon-to-be-merged bank would be No. 8.""

When is Brighthouse being added to that list?

That was the original reason, it was said that farmers would go "up to town" to sell their goods, and eventually it was shortened to Uptown. In the 70's or 80's, when there was actually some notable retail Uptown, by then called Downtown like most cities, they were having trouble getting people to come in from the suburbs for anything other than work, it had a gritty feel that many white collar people would have prefered to avoid. I don't feel like doing the research at the moment, but a prominent businessman here in Charlotte promoted "Uptown" Charlotte as a hub for dining and entertainment that still sticks today. So yes, in a way, the MODERN meaning is a bit pretentious, and frankly confusing, many signs around the city contradict each other. I think one sign at the airport says Uptown and another says Downtown, unless it's since been changed.

Yep it's an exit on I-85 near the airport that still says Downtown
