Got to 485 station at 10:20 today.  No spots in deck.  No spots outside.  I mean none....unless you want to park at Steak n Shake or over across South Blvd.  There were tons of people illegally parked along the islands in the outside lot.

Sharon Rd West was also FULL on the sign, so I didn't drive in.

    Arrowood had lots of space.

I had never seen 485 completely full before.  Not that I frequently get there that late.  Made me wonder if some special event was going on uptown --- or is it just that busy these days?

It isn't uncommon for me to see 485 station and Sharon Road West station FULL when driving by in the morning around 830.

San Antonio has about 1.5 million people in city proper, granted that covers a huge area.

But we aren't passing them anytime soon.  We shouldn't even hit a million until the early 2020's.

My bad.  I was confusing Fort Worth with San Antonio.  You are correct.  I remember Charlotte being very close in population to Fort Worth.

According to this article, we will surpass San Antonio by the end of 2017.  I wonder if the city population will surpass it as well.

Revised site plan for the parking lot site at Park South Drive, just north of the Courtyard.  Density!

I work in one of the Fairview Plaza buildings, so this would be literally right out my window.  I love the density, but it will be a nightmare to park when that is going on.  The parking deck is decently filled every day.

  5. I had gone back to the beginning of this thread and read through several pages.  I thought it was funny that a lot of people had a problem with the name Time Warner Cable Arena.  I moved here in 2013 and that is the only name I have known for it, up until Spectrum Center.  I never thought it was a bad name.  There also seemed to be a divide on whether or not changing the name would make any difference.  Some thought it should come back to Charlotte, others didn't think it would matter and would be an insult to the Bobcats fans.  I have never been to a game, but for those that have been to a game recently, does it seem like the team is better supported by fans?  Starting 4-1 doesn't hurt either.

  6. Just throwing this out there.  My girlfriend works at Carolina Place in one of the department stores.  We also live in Pineville, so we go there frequently.  The mall always seems to be busy to me.  There are a few stores that have closed, but they seem to be replaced fairly quickly.  You could make the argument that Barnes and Noble might be a draw, because it is the only mall in Charlotte with a B&N.  I only mention it as a draw, because we have gone to a few events and book releases there.  They draw decent crowds.  In my unprofessional opinion, the mall seems to be doing fine and is usually busy.  I agree that it is not very pedestrian friendly.  My girlfriend walks to there from our apartment and the sidewalk situation is terrible.  I definitely agree with the above improvements, but I don't get the sense that the mall is going downhill at all.

  7. Just an observation this weekend from my family visiting from out of state.  My sister, who lives outside of Pittsburgh, said several time that she was "blown away" but the cultural diversity in Charlotte.  I guess she is used to each race sticking together, rather than mingling with each other.  I had to agree with her, but I guess I have just gotten used to it.

  8. Can anyone recommend a shop in town with a good hat selection? Fedoras, pork pies, ivy caps, etc. Boris and Natasha drastically scaled back their men's wares recently and Revolution is more miss than hit for me. I'm getting close to driving down to Charleston just to spend a few hundred at the Goorin Bros store. Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't wear hats, but what about Alexander Hats?  http://www.alexanderhats.com/

  9. Not really nationwide... but... here it goes anyways.

    http://www.charlotteagenda.com/2364/6-things-that-amazed-me-about-charlotte-from-a-northerner-who-knows/

Sort of reeks of someone who has never left the confines of Dilworth, SouthPark, Myers Park, Elizabeth, Uptown, Plaza Midwood and Noda. I'd like to weigh in...

    1. Agree, its sort of absurd how clean the streets are.

    2. I'd still say our alcohol laws are pretty outrageous. Whenever I walk into an ABC store in Charlotte, all I see is Tired Out Big Name Liquor Brands that I am too snotty to purchase anymore. Yes beer is everywhere you can imagine and thats great, but we still have to purchase Liquor at State Owned ABC stores, just like PA, and those stores do not sell beer or wine. In Georgia I used to buy anything I wanted at the liquor Store, Beer, Wine, Liquor.

    3. I guess so... Everytime I go there I do notice more and more people that are in shape, and less people that are morbidly obese, but honestly thats a part of living in the center city area.

    4.  HAHAHA, I guess that needed to be said? I guess this one just amused me because I live in a city with a higher concentration of People of Jewish Descent than Isreal, and work for a Jewish company.

    5. Wish I could sit her down and give her the full story (She's kind of cute, just saying)

    6. Clearly she's never been in the Charlotte Suburbs, they aren't ALL in cute houses... Just in Dilworth.

I grew up a little over an hour west of Lancaster, PA, so I can agree with #4 (I think I only knew 1 person who was Jewish).  As far as #6, I've seen many businesses in houses up in PA.

  10. I know this isn't the correct topic, but I couldn't find a South Boulevard topic.  Feel free to move.

Does anyone know what is going next to the Pier One Imports?  Looks like maybe 2 stories.  It was a restaurant, but I forget the name.

  11. I just don't understand some people. I mean is this really an issue? (side note this post is about a completely different topic)

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/community/south-charlotte/article16397681.html

I agree.  I was going to post this.  The guy complaining lives within the city limits, but complains that he will lose the rural feeling.  Then don't live in a growing city if that is what you want!  Also, the lights make it safer for everyone (which is what the other residents said).

  12. thought I would pass this on...

Reporter from WBTV saw the STREETCAR petition created by a Seversville resident and requested interviews this evening. Expect story on WBTV at 11 pm tonight. 93 people have signed and the petitions not 24 hours old. Please sign asap by clicking on the link. Please share with others that believe in this project.

Seems this petition is popular.  I signed yesterday at 125.  It is now at 203.
