This crash had inbound Independence crawling for most of the day yesterday. A work van collided with the right leg of the gigantic overhead highway signs across the street from Walmart. The passenger didn't make it, and neither did the sign. The humongous sign is currently resting up against the wall inside the Bus Lanes.

I wonder if they'll utilize the old pedestrian tunnel that runs under Stonewall / Brooklyn Village Ave right there

What if we had a company like Cintra (but not Cintra) build and operate the rail lines for us? I'm sure the fares would be more expensive, but maybe they'd be better enforced(?)

I was excited to see the Blimp. We watched the game from an outdoor bar in SouthEnd. Every now and then, people would just start pointing up like "BLIMP!" and we'd all watch it float on by. Good times.

I've been wondering the same thing. I think the endcap space that Five Guys is in now got subdivided and BWW Go will be in between Five Guys and the nail place. It looks like there's a space inside separate from the new Five Guys that hasn't been upfitted yet. Every other space is leased so I'm not sure where else it could possibly be. FWIW, the BWW Go logo is placed differently on every pylon sign around the property: on one it is next to Five Guys, on another it is next to Halal Street Food, and on the third it is on a line by itself.
Various past leasing info for reference:
I’m still disappointed by this. There aren’t any fast-casual restaurants or bars around for miles. I feel like a normal B-Dubs would have done well enough here. Maybe they’re changing their business model, and that’s cool. Just someone please open a bar nearby

The flag pole is a nice touch. I would say I'd like to have one of those Hugos, but they're almost as long as that dumpster and I'm guessing it's a 20-footer(?)

I met Pat Hall, Mr Carowinds, in 1972 at the Southern Christmas Show at the then-Merchandise Mart on Independence. He had a display of the Park to attract attention and he and I shook hands and stood beside Miss South Carolina who was a relentless smile with a tiara. It was honestly exciting as theme parks were better than television, the comparison of the time. As with other such attractions, the experience was better after dark when the everyday elements were hidden from view and the lights made the magic the feature.
Up until recently, there was a really detailed scale model of the original entrance sitting beside the stage in Harmony Hall. I haven't seen it this season, but I wondered if that was a part of his original promotional material

Down in Matthews on Independence this little strip center has multiple businesses attracting an international crowd including this South African food shop (and they ship products all over the country.) There is an empanadas place, Asian food mart, European cleaners (not sure what that is or how it is different) all at Matthews Mint Hill Rd and 74.
Had to pick up some gifts for my South African friends so this little place is your local source for Biltong and rusks. They make their own Biltong the South African way and had to get special permission to do it.
Looking at the images on Google Maps, it looks like they've recently expanded from one strip-mall space to THREE overtaking the J. Jones Jewelers and the Oriental Massage. They must be doing pretty well

from Charlotte Axios
That appears to be where Ronson / Kaiser Fluid Technologies used to be on Sugar Creek. My Old Man worked there for many, many years.

They're also currently replacing the original Charlotte Coliseum (Bojangles Arena) / Ovens Auditorium sign with a giant video board

More possible MoRA Point retail news: the signs now have a Buffalo Wild Wings Go logo on them. Not sure where that could go though. The only vacant spot I'm aware of is the unit where Five Guys is currently upfitting (Unit A of 4014 Connection Point Blvd). There are permits filed from October attached to Unit A for BWW, but most are listed as cancelled or expired.
I'm not in love with this. I feel like a normal B-Dubs would have done well here since we don't have a good bar from Steamers to Boardwalk(?) and there's a Wing Stop right across the street.

The problem is that this road was ever allowed to turn into the monstrosity that it is today. By the time this thing gets off the ground its going to cost north of $300 million. I know the state doesn't allow it but there really needs to be studies done on these projects to prove that the money spent is actually worth it.
And are they going to have to re-do any of this in 10-20 years when they start construction on the Silver Line?

Are they going to continue construction and possibly connect the bottom end of the LSC Greenway to the Nation Ford Greenway? There's only about a mile gap between them

That was Midwood Elementary School. Then with the dramatic increase in teen pregnancy in the 80's and early 90's it was home to TAPS, Ten Age Parents School where expecting girls could continue their education, have social workers and occasional nurse checks and support for their future. It was also the night school in the after school hours for students who were at risk for dropping out and needed work or support for family during regular school hours. Also for those who were so far behind in credits they needed an additional class hour or so beyond what was available during their normal school day schedule. Then International House arrived when the condition of the building was not sufficient for school standards. Centrall location, excellent bus connections, some parking. I was in the building for all those uses except the elementary school.
I graduated from High School (Summer School) there when it was the Midwood School for Pregnant Girls and Boys Who Can't Read Good. It was a blast! I'm gonna hate to see it get torn down.

Did anybody go to the Silver Line Rail Trail Meeting at the Independence Library last night? How was it?
