I mean, anything would have been nice. Even just some simple led lighting, agreed. I guess it's still too early to tell if they will at least have any unique lighting elements on this one. At the end of the day, I'm definitely not complaining. It's so cool that in 3 years, we've added a new 2nd and 3rd tallest (not to mention the additions a little further down the list, as well)

Is there supposed to be anything special about the crown on this one? I'm having a hard time telling from the renderings if there is anything that will set this off from just looking like 505's twin brother. Don't get me wrong, the height and location are awesome and well recieved. Just seems to me if I was building the 2nd tallest building in town I'd want it to have something to differentiate it more. Especially at such a great location.
Either way, in the 5 years since I've moved it's still amazing to see such awesome growth. I can't wait to find time to make it back to visit.

I've trying to figure out why this tower doesn't feel imposing on it's immediate surroundings (a common criticism of towers) and decided it is because the glass tower stack is not oriented towards any street..only the brick lower floors are. The feeling of this huge thing looming over the sidewalk is avoided with this setup. Interesting approach I had never considered. Kudos to the architecture team who came up with this...best of both worlds achieved here, if I've ever seen it.
You're right, it's brilliant. Bravo, Indeed. This may be one of the most well designed and thought out projects I have ever seen. I mean, if I hadn't read it here I would have never guessed those original facades were recreated. Man, talk about a developer "getting it"! This gives me high hopes for future projects

Thanks, I was thinking that was it but I'm still kind of new to the area. Do we know how close to topped out it was as of that picture? It adds a great presence in that picture

Long time since I've checked in......so is this thing definitely a go? This will have a huge impact on lessening the "canyon affect" of the skyline along broadway. Also, that stage top stadium facing Bridgestone arena is GENIUS. Can you imagine the crowds that events there will draw?

In terms of skyline, I'd say we sit comfortably somewhere between Louisville, KY and the big Ohio cities (Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus). New Orleans is pretty similar in terms of skyline but kills us on street level. St Louis is probably our closest equivalent, IMHO. Kansas City dwarfs us.

My estranged wife (and routinely my two young children) live on the 3rd floor of the Glen Royall Mills building out in Wake Forest. This incident has been an eye-opener that hit home about the reality of the dangers of having upwards of fifty to a hundred kitchens jammed into these wood framed or structured buildings. I have to admit I've been plagued with anxiety every second my kids have been over there since.

^^^I think I may have been out of the loop for a while, but can someone clarify what that building going up north of Westin is? Is that Cambria? If so, do we know how close to topped out it is? Maybe it's just because I haven't been in town for a few months, but it seems like that went up damn near overnight!

This is something that has really stood out to me since I recently moved to North Carolina. Virtually every exit here, at least along 40 has landscaped exits, or at very least, the exits are fully wooded, rather than being mowed down to grass. This is especially nice for people that live off these exits as often you can't even tell the interstate is there. Of course, nice things come at a cost , overall taxes are a bit higher here. But by the same token, it doesn't seem to me like it would be cheap to bulldoze everything for a square mile before putting in new exits.

Anybody know what's being built on walnut st right by the corner of Macedonia rd? Looks like a church but there's no signage or info online that I can find. Just curious.
Edit- nevermind, got confirmation on city data that it's going to be an secu bank. Boo.

I used to cross this bridge on a daily basis when I lived in Old Hickory Village. Renovations on that thing had it reduced to one lane both ways and seemed like it was never going to end. I've been in NC now since October, did they ever wrap it up?

Yeah, it was a really neat effect. And when it went back to real time they looked like a couple of looming robot dinosaurs. Great video, everyone should really check it out.

^^^ The reflections on Gulch Crossing line up just right with the Eakin building to create a neat optical illusion, making it seem transparent...cool pic.
I'm sure it's been stated before, but how much higher can we expect this baby to go? It's really gearing up to have a significant impact on our skyline. Also, who else is eagerly anticipating structural hints of the "waterfall of death" as we're watching this thing go up?

I agree the secondary lego is far superior to the "flaming thumbtack" (which is a good descriptor). I don't like the thumbtack logo because it doesn't really convey anything. I mean...what is it? It does nothing to convey the idea of an "Athenian soldier", much less the mythological Titans the team is named after. It's really a lost opportunity for a motif that could have been inspired by the Greek soldier look. I hear Titans and I think of stylizations of hoplite helmets or round shields or even temple columns or a million other things before what we actually have. I mean, we have the potential to be one of the most visually unique and cool franchises in the league, but, as it is, its just vague and un-intriguing. And to top it all of, our mascot is a raccoon. I mean seriously?? My gripe with the baby blue is that, psychologically, that is a color associated with babies in onesies. It's just the opposite of menacing or tough looking in my opinion. Anyway, not trying to beat a dead horse, just had to put my two-cents in on the topic.

All I will say is that hopefully with new ownership (and legitimate staffing, if it ever happens) should come a complete RE-BRANDING. For almost the entirety of this teams existence the seasons have ranged from disappointing to mediocre. Get rid of the god-awful, eggshell baby-blue colors, the confusing logo, basically everything that reminds us of the team's existence post McNair fizzing out. I don't mind keeping the Titans name or the historical element behind it, but I just can't see anyone ever being excited again by the franchise in it's current form, which is essentially a constant reminder of embarrassment and failure.

I wasn't crazy about the Sheraton downtown painting their building bright white. Now...another building with white (stripes). Not a fan. Stands out a little too much.
I dunno, both of these buildings were looking severely dated and depressed with the fading, beige concrete. Personally, I think the Sheraton looks way better now, especially looking from the Capitol Mall vantage point. It's not like that building was an architectural gem anyway and it takes at least 20 years off the age of the building. Hell, if I were to be completely honest, I'd have to say all the concrete on the batman tower looks pretty dated now, too.
Anyway, coupled with the updates coming to the UBS building, this renovation should do a lot to help smooth the stark contrast in architecture between the cbd and the shiny, squeeky clean new development quickly rising in sobro and the gulch.

Looks more like danish than pizza.
It is. It's a Danish ring thing from Panera which are very popular for corporate breakfast catered events around town. I know this because my wife managed the Panera in Brentwood for a long time. I was tempted to comment earlier but didn't want to derail the thread with minutiae, but now I am anyway! ;-)
On a related note, I am glad to hear of the approval for the State Museum on the mall. Raleigh already has something similar with their natural science museum and history museum located on the capitol mall and it is really very nice. I remember thinking the first time I visited that something like that would be well worth emulating in Nashville. I think if done properly it will be something really worth taking pride in and, with the help of the ballpark, will add some much needed "family-friendly" destinations to the core.

Don't know if anyone saw this weeks episode of South Park, but it featured a pretty great send-up of the current gentrification/"urbanism" trend going on around the country. There were so many jokes people like us here can appreciate. Whether you agree or disagree with the spirit of the episode, I thought it was pretty accurate.

Was it a premier parking lot? I apologize in advance if I'm not 100% accurate here since I'm going solely on memory, but a few years ago I had parked in a premier lot next to Joes crab shack one night. I was barely a minute or two over the expiration time and literally walking to my car as the meter guy was placing a ticket on my car. I was like what the Hell man? But he just kinda shrugged and ran off. It was for some ridiculous amount, too, like $40 or so (in addition to what I had already paid). Anyway, I called the number on the ticket and made a big stink about it and the guy on the phone whittled it down to something more reasonable like $15. So it's not outside their power to do so if you get on their case, it's not like they're real metro police tickets.
