I have to agree with you, the Rudee Loop should have at least one all inclusive resort taking up much of that area.
I'd be happy with high end condos with some first floor retail and integrated parking garage. The rest of the loop could be set up as a beach stage for the summer. Things get built, city makes money, we get a new outdoor venue. We all win!

I thought they rebuilt after it burned down. Guess it was just part of the school.

Honestly, that might not be a bad thing lol.
As long as it's south of Princess Anne, sure.

I would say it was across the street of VB Middle, South side of 24th between Cypress and Mediterranean. Love how there is nothing at Hilltop, and there doesn't appear to be any air strip.

Maybe they plan on using the two meeting rooms as makeshift locker rooms or the locker rooms under the stands in the indoor track is shared with the basketball courts?
Only locker rooms mentioned under the courts are for officials. Personally think this was a waste of money, but hey we got something!

You know what I don't see, locker rooms for 24 basket ball teams. Actually don't see any locker rooms at all.

Sounds great, too bad it's just apartments.

While I do like the plan, I can see where some of the opposition comes from. This will dramatically increase traffic at the light at Thalia and VB which already isn't great. Other than that, they really don't have much to really complain about other than their elementary will be more in line with other schools in VB when it comes to class size.

That’s awesome, but traffic is gonna be insane! If only they had some form of transportation to deliver guests. A light train, perhaps, that runs along a rail from Norfolk...
But then they could stay in Norfolk and we would loose the hotel tax dollars. Oh and you have to remember that would bring in that bad element from Norfolk

I like seeing both, just to see how each city is doing, and how we as a region are ranking. Maybe show us as a region, then a breakdown of each city?

Hopefully they will build taller so they have room for future tennants.

Isn't there a mixed-use development planned for the corner of Princess Anne and Newtown? That's about a block from the station.
I saw the plans from 2010, but nothing really showed any urban development in that area. The improvements looked good and much needed though. The lot on the corner on Norfolk's side screams for a little more space, and tower. Maybe a mixed use office/residential/retail if they could get rid of that one office building next to it. Or if they get really lucky multi towers with a hotel/conference center deal.

Once the Tide goes through, it will be a short walk to a station from there most likely. Smart planning if you ask me, even if you don't plan on building any time soon. I wish someone would put up a nice apartment tower near the Newtown station just to show how well it would work. A mini urban area that could benefit *both* Norfolk and VA Beach. The type of urban development that would be good along the line, near stations within walking distances. Think Cosmopolitan but scaled to fit both physical and economical location with more strip mall type shops. Build a couple near each other and close a strip mall, I would see that as a win any day.

I've moved out of TC and most likely will be staying in my suburban wonderland, and I still say build it to the beach!!!!! The city, and the region as a whole cannot move forward if we do not get off our collective rears and do projects like this. No, it won't reduce tons of traffic, no it won't save money, but it will give us a more modern up to date feel. A better option on how we would like to travel between cities, and one that can and will build a nice mini urban district along its corridor.
I may live in VB but work in Norfolk, and would love to be able to catch the Tide close to where I live and ride 20-30 min to downtown without having to fight all that stupid traffic. Just sit back and relax.

I do my banking at that Chartway and I asked them about what was being built next door when I was there today. They said it is a Chick-Fil-A.
Nooo, I was hoping they were finally starting to clear things for a new tower over there. We really don't need another Chick-Fil-A...

The new Kroger Market Places in the 757 already have all these amenities. It's nothing "NEW"! LOL!
If you've ever been to a Wegmans, you would know that they don't even come close in comparison.

I'm also glad something is happening, just wish one of the towers were at least 15 or so stories :/

There are out-parcels being built in the Holland Windsor Crossing shopping center. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not another mattress store, god knows we don't have enough of those.
The mattress store is already there

Yeah Cosmo is 14 on the N and 12 on the S.

An easy fix, at least for locals, would be light rail extended from Newtown to the Oceanfront. There would be no reason for most locals to drive there if you could easily catch a ride to Tide station. Plus as it would be a special event (and ending after the normal Tide running hours), they could set up as many of the trains at the arena and once full leave.
-
The skywalk could connect to the Cosmo, you would just have to enter from the CN side and walk across to the other side. That side of the garage is fairly empty most of the time, and there is a stairwell there. There is more retail on the Cosmo/CN side of TC than on the Westin so it depends on what they really plan on doing. Spread the retail, or keep it closer together.

I have driven a few times down Constitution heading due south a few times to turn right onto Bonney Road. I have noticed there was construction type orange tape on the quadrant on the right. I have no idea though if anything will be going in there. This was probably 2 or 3 times since October but not very recently.
The orange construction fabric stuff has been up for *months* with no other changes. I would say around 6 or so. When it first went up, they mowed the lot and the one across the street down low and it looked like they were going to start something, but nothing else has happened since.

There shouldn't be any problem with the LR part of the trip. Now the part where they get on the bus will take a while to get to Town Center. Buses are at the mercy of the traffic they are in.
I believe that's the whole idea
