  1. i like this view of the nook... the rooftop condensers look like minions assembled, ready to attack:

Hopefully the new development next to the RR tracks covers that view. Hideous. Just Hideous. Plaza Midwood deserves some sort of art installation or mural on the Dairy Queen side. Snug Harbor's new mural is really well done, why not hire that guy?

  2. I'm very excited about the place, and love what they're doing, but I also think they missed a great opportunity to open up that massive brick wall facing Zada's and put some big windows in. Thomas St and Zada Jane's seems like the perfect setting to take in while grabbing a drink. Bakersfield and Little Spoon seem to have nailed it when it comes to bringing the outside in, I just wish that little stretch of Central Ave could become more like that.

  3. I've been wondering what's going on with that medical building at Torrence and 3rd Street--they recently put a fireplace outside, which seems odd for a medical building. Today we discovered that Firehouse Subs lists a new Midtown location at 1500 E 3rd Street as "coming soon".

Nothing against Firehouse Subs, but I'm a bit disappointed. The building seems far too nice for a chain sandwich place. Hopefully they have a good beer list, with a patio like that.

  4. That's it, I'm going to finally try Beef n Bottle. Lived here for 7 years, I guess it's about time.

Does anyone know what is going on with the newly renovated building at 1500 E 3rd Street?

It looks to have a great patio with an outdoor fireplace. I'm assuming it's going to be a restaurant but can't find any info.

  5. ^The apartments at St. Julien and and Commonwealth (no name chose for the development yet) are being built by Levine Properties.  It will be approx. 100 units, mostly single/studios with one parking spot per unit.  All rentals and no retail component.  Parking will be surface level in the center of the building (hidden from street view) with some on street parking spots on St. Julien.    Construction is supposed to begin mid-December and projected completion is first quarter of 2016.  Exterior  (four stories) is mostly brick and a blonde stone-block skirt.  Sorry, I have seen a rendering but don't have one to share.  It will be dog  and bike friendly.

Wow, nice looking place. What a shame that we ended up with a high-rise prison next to Dairy Queen while an attractive, well built structure like this will be tucked back on Commonwealth.

  6. So I'm digging all the new beer loving restaurants coming to Plaza Midwood (Pizza Peel and Central Pint), but I just don't understand how Central Ave between Pecan and Thomas has avoided all these new developments? Other than 22 and Soul, which are relatively new and successful, and Novas which seems busy, I have no idea how some of those businesses make enough money to keep their doors open. I guess I'm curious to hear what people think of that strip on Central Ave between Pecan and Thomas.
