  1. The Hall is opening in an old warehouse space on W. 9th. Going to be a music and event center. Looks to be similar to other mid size music venues in other cities. Comparable in my mind to places like Canton Hall  in Dallas.

2nd Street (bottom right hand corner) will remain open but the ramp will be replaced by a park running from the Clinton Presidential  Center Park under I-30 west to Cumberland.

I was hoping they would do a deck over park from 6th to 9th much like Klyde Warren Park in Dallas. That section is already below grade and could connect Mac Park to East Village somewhat nicely. But why would ARDOT want to make anything more pleasant*eyeroll*

Maybe I'm confusing this with another asian restaurant, but I thought they were closing because the family was moving (and there was some hope that someone might take over operations)?

Not sure. Google shows as permanently closed. I went back and reread the FB post and it says:

"We appreciate the tremendous amount of love and support. As of 10/31/20 Kimchi will be closed until further notice. Again thank you all very much it was a wonderful experience and we are very grateful for the chance to spread the love of Korean cuisine."

It has been a week since the I-30 Crossing project has started. This project centers around the expansion of I-30 through downtown LR/NLR and the replacement of the I-30 bridge. The stated reason for the expansion is to speed up traffic for those living outside of LR by a few minutes each day. But the situation has changed and  the highway department has failed, as far as I know, to discuss  the so-called new normal on traffic. The construction is only half funded and the rest of the money is based on the extension of a sales tax in November. Also, no money has been allocated for any improvements to new underpasses or the proposed park on 2nd street as well as to rebuild the trolley line that passes under the interstate.

What was a parking lot in the River Market is now a staging area and the parking lot under the 2nd street on/off ramp will be closed this week.

That project is already a disaster. Screwed up the last of the free rivermarket parking and took away the sledding hill. It is a mess.

    Copelands?  Really?  I hand't heard that...sure it isn't temporary?

I saw an equipment auction for Copeland's coming up Aug 20 so that doesn't sound temporary.

    FYI: Zaffino's didn't close because of COVID-19.

I just saw they said they were closed for reorganizing then announced it was closed permanently.  I am sure Covid-19 didn't help even if it wasn't the cause.

I swear, this town continually shoots itself in the foot. Who’s opposed to two story?! Argh.

By the way, I’ve always wondered why it isn’t a Super Target. I mean, Shreveport has one - of all places.

Target said no from what I remember. That change snowballed into the rest of the development being kind of blah.

My point being that the development has always seemed hobbled...so very strange that they didn’t include a hotel when there’s got to be a HUGE demand in that area (notwithstanding the Four Points by Sheraton, which was a depressed property at that time).

From what I recall, the NW building was a hotel site. It was not built with the rest of the apartment buildings (which were all supposed to be first floor retail instead of just one).  Even after it was built, it was repainted so there must have been a change in plans at some point. The developers also wanted the Target as two story but they said no so their footprint is massive.

Agreed. Zoe’s always LOOKED like a cool concept, but honestly the food wasn’t that appealing. Taziki’s is top-notch. It’s strange how things work in some markets, and not others. There are still a few Zoe’s in NWA and a lot in Tulsa, but admittedly those markets don’t have Taziki’s.

There are actually two Taziki's in Tulsa and at least two in NWA. Not an overwhelming presence but they are in the markets.

The Arkansas Arts Center building is almost completely demolished. This is a major project for Little Rock following a campaign of $128 million raised to fund the project and Arts Center.

The new design will feature the old 1937 facade which will not be demolished.

This was originally supposed to be a $40 million renovation. They said they were not choosing a new location because they would not be  building a new building. Their past building projects and expansions have had their issues. Hence why it's being torn down. The newest section of the building was built in 2000 and it is the section that is gone in the top picture. We will see if they are in over their heads.

Conway is on a roll with new job announcements over the past few months. The first to announce was DXC Technology with 1200 new jobs to be added to the 450 now employed. This was followed by Structurlam Mass Timber expanding into the U.S. It will employ 130 workers building lamented beams for the construction industry. Also, SFI will expand by adding 75 to its workforce in  steel fabrication.   The 1400+ new jobs announced exceeds the 900 people unemployed shown in the October workforce numbers.

Conway is doing something right. There are restaurants popping up all over. 2 new apartment complexes about ready to open. Downtown is looking great. UCA has 4 or 5 construction projects going on. No wonder they are attracting new companies/jobs. It's so much different than when I was in school 15 years ago.

The Power + Ice Building should start construction next to Argenta Plaza soon. The City has agreed to sell the property and the building will contain a Food Hall on the ground floor. The space will contain 6 restaurant stalls, a central bar and   communal seating. The two floors above will contain residential units.

I am hoping this food hall has a vibe similar to Mother Road Market in Tulsa. That place is a great spot to hang out and eat with friends.

Read in the Democrat-Gazette that now two members of the planning commission are against making that a parking lot and approval has been delayed for a month. It’s probably still going to happen but the last thing downtown needs is another parking lot.

Doesn't do much good to be against it after the buildings are already down. Stephens will always win unfortunately.

You also failed to mention Denny's going in next to Walk-Ons unless you are not a fan of the Grand Slam.

Also, the Hampton Inn has topped out and has taken up the space of the former Ruby Tuesday's.

Ah ok. I've seen the framing start but wasn't sure if that was something else or the Walk-Ons. I am not a big fan of Denny's either.

I don't make it over to that Hampton Inn side often enough I guess to know which hotels are new. There is some work going on with the old Village Inn/ Weird Italian restaurant/ Shucked space too.

  14. Conway Restaurant News:

    • Walk-Ons is getting ready for ground breaking in the Lewis Ranch development on Amity Rd
    • Minute Man of El Dorado is said to be looking at a Conway location
    • Skinny J's is going in the former Draft/Roux's location on Dave Ward
    • Taco Bell has a plumbing permit for what I think is the empty lot next to Steak 'n Shake on Dave Ward
    • The old Exxon at I-40 and Oak Street was razed and now a strip with Panda Express and Sleep Number store that are about ready to open
    • Your Pie on Dave Ward in a strip next to Andy's Frozen Custard is nearing their opening date

Non-restaurant: Sissy's Log Cabin is moving into the old Simmons location near Conway Commons

Noticed the Chick Fil A in WLR is completely fenced off. Not sure if they are doing a remodel or what. Looks to be open still though drive through is totally shut down and most of the grounds are blocked off with machines and fencing.

    Update: it's closed for remodeling.

Which one in WLR? Cantrell or Chenal? Kind of a rough time to close with all those kiddos just getting out for summer.
