Yeah, looking at the list of metro areas by population I'd say Charlotte's skyline beats out that of multiple larger metro areas:

    Washington (obviously)

    Phoenix

    Riverside CA (Inland Empire)

    Detroit

    Twin Cities (maybe a tie)

    Tampa

    St. Louis

Whereas the only smaller metro areas I can think of that compete with Charlotte's skyline might be Austin and Pittsburgh. Charlotte punches above its weight!

I would add Cleveland,  Cincinnati,  Milwaukee,  St. Louis, and Orlando (not sure if it's considered larger) to that list. Also, while Boston is much denser, not sure their skyline is any better either.

  2. Can anyone put together a list of all the projects,  specifically the new or proposed towers going up in Southend?  I think it would be nice for some of us that struggle to keep up with all the developments to have 1 thread dedicated to Southend development.  Renderings would be great too.  Would love to see a rendering of what the district would look like with everything built out.

Carowinds owns 407 acres, more than any other park Cedar Fair owns - that’s factual, not debatable. There is easily 100+ acres of land to be developed inside the park boundaries and near the campground. Cedar Point and King’s Island are the only two parks, while smaller in total land, that are more developed than Carowinds.

Not debating the 407 acres.   Read my post again.  Some could read your post as the park itself (not total land owned) is 407 acres.  I know there is plenty of room to grow, I'm not debating that.  My point was the park, inside the gated attractions (which drew over 2m visitors) is nowhere near 407 acres.   In fact, it's not even half of that.....and that's not debatable!

Carowinds surpassed 2 million annual visitors in 2015, becoming the 5th most-visited park in the chain. It’s also the largest by size at 407 acres.

That 407 acres is misleading.   The park itself is nowhere near that big, or nowhere near as big as some of the other parks in the chain.  The land that surrounds the park (outside the gates) that is also owned by Carowinds makes up a big portion of that 407 acres.

I was there.  My 10 year old son felt it would have been better if they hadn't sold any upper level tickets, would have more filled in the lower bowl and felt better.

It was a surreal experience seeing my favorite EPL team in my city.  Not to mention getting the opportunity to see my favorite team (Panthers) in London later this year.

I'm an Arsenal fan as well.  Hate I couldn't make it up there to see them.  Bucket list for me is to see them at the Emirates.

  6. The problem with The Landing in Jacksonville is that the city planners have no real vision of what that property could become.   Most envision another park  which would be fine if they would address the homeless in that area.  That piece of land has so much potential but I have yet to see any decent proposal.

Speaking of the New Concourse A, City Council earlier this week approved the architectural contract for Phase 2 which will be a 10 gate expansion. Construction is expected to begin by the end of this year. When complete I would expect Delta to move to these new gates and American will take over all of original A.

Where/which direction is the expansion occurring?  Anyone have an rendering?

KJ,  i usually disagree with your opinion on what looks good architecturally when i read it on the forum lol, but just want to say i appreciate you always taking the time out of your day to grab progress pics fo the projects for the forums.  Thanks .  This building is going to turn out very nice.

Trying to get excited about this, but what is it that has everyone so high on its looks?  I think it's okay, but I see it just blending in amongst the other buildings nearby.  Just curious, what am I missing?

^Instead of focusing on winning basketball, someone should've stopped to understand what a Record of Decision actually means.

Sounds like they are focused on medical research,  not basketball.   I applaud their decision and I'm not generally opposed to Light Rail transit.

FYI, the 32 NFL teams play in eight covered stadia, retractable or fixed. Five of those eight are in facilities that replaced previous covered stadia from decades ago (if one includes the Astrodome for the Houston Oilers). One team has moved from a covered stadium to an open, Seattle. There appears to be no movement from open to closed stadia in the NFL.

Will be 10 teams when the new LA stadium opens and 11 teams when the Raiders move to Vegas.

What's comfortable about that tho.....and most likely a SuperBowl would not want to ever pic the city that has no dome, tho it has before. But it is rare.

Miami, Tampa, New York,  Jacksonville have all hosted Super Bowls in the 21st century.
