Sorry for the negativism you are going to read, but this is really how I feel about connecting anything to a mall now or malls in general. I used to be in favor of downtown malls. No longer, that is a waist of energy to heat & cool. Just simple street activation retail is good enough along the lines of Fifth & Broad.

They must be desperate to drive business to that horrible place mentioned above. Malls....never go!   Reason to go ....None!   Green Hills Mall... Too Expensive , It's in Green Hills...always a pain to park! Opry Mills... too many issues with crime now & getting worse.

All Malls... just flatten them all, take pictures and hang them in a museum. Again I apologize for being negative but I just can't help myself on this one.

So if a product doesn't suit you, do away with it entirely? I'll never buy a boat (I get motion sick) but that doesn't mean they shouldn't exist. I haven't been to a mall in years, but they certainly have their place (in the suburbs).

I will agree that in the 80's & 90's we went overboard with malls, but that seems very much less the case today.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. A $200,000 investment in a house that is getting $1,800 a month in rent still requires nearly 10 years of rental income just to balance out the initial investment, though you might be able to bring that down to 8 or so years by increasing rents by a few percentage points every year. But, that's not even counting the few-thousand-dollars-a-year in maintenance, property tax payments, refurbishments every 2-3 years when a tenant leaves, and remodels every 5-10 years. And even considering that, $200,000 is the lower end of some of the purchases. This all just screams of an inflated market and a scheme where the top investors that got in early will get out when the company valuation peaks.

Don't forget that in the current environment that $200k house will soon be $250k, then $300k. That's a lot of equity the owners can borrow against.

     move in from California

I don't understand this obsession among some for blaming former Californians for the increase in housing costs here in Nashville. Most of our growth is the product of natural increase or people moving here from other places in TN. Even among those moving from out of state, more move here from AR or GA (and several other states) than CA.

    From Channel 5 News, yesterday.

"TDOT explores possibility of converting HOV lanes to toll lanes" Sorry if this was posted earlier:

    https://www.newschannel5.com/news/should-tennessee-convert-hov-lanes-to-toll-lanes-tdot-wants-to-know-what-you-think

I was under the impression that conversion to HOT was disallowed on our HOV lanes because of the specifics of the deal to get them built in the first place.

The Nashville MSA is expected to grow by close to 150,000 over the next five years, according to the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Tennessee, reaching 2.2 million people by 2026.

If these are the same as the State Data Center estimates they are due to be updated early next year a will include data from the 2020 Census.

Why would we want to move the railyard?    It's ugly but needed.

So that the rail lines through town could be used for transit. It would also significantly reduce the conflict between surface streets and rail lines. There are neighborhoods that can be cut off from the rest of Nashville by a stopped train. A suburban/exurban site could also be larger are more modern and allow for future expansion if needed.

Thrilled to hear that the new owner highly values the existing businesses and the structure in which they reside!

Or maybe not given today's announcement.  :(

I hope these operations can return to their historical locations after construction is complete.

That's not happening. The Mercy complex will  be relocating.

"Gentrification" doesn't lead to larger houses with fewer occupants.

No necessarily larger homes, but few persons per dwelling unit - and that results in population remaining flat or slightly decreasing in the early stages of gentrification. See: CD5 2010-2020. Later, as land values increase, we see densification via MF and slight increases in total population.

    not inhabited by any natives

What does that matter? I'm not a native and I'm guessing a good portion of the members here aren't either. It certainly doesn't imply that we don't care about how Nashville develops.

It will make the expansion of that part of the interstate impossible

Good. We need to stop widening the interstates and invest in transit instead.

So you must not be that worried about Carbon Dioxide then, right?  Because if you fail to speak up about the largest source of Carbon Dioxide because you have limited influence, then to me it is obvious you don't really see a threat in CO2.  To me it just looks like you're promoting your political/economic agenda.  If you really thought the fate of the world hinged on limiting CO2 emissions, then you would be coming up with ways to stop China even without their cooperation - for the sake of the world (from your perspective).

I find you rhetoric both unnecessarily aggressive and unconvincing. Your constant and purposeful misrepresentation leads me to believe you are inflexible in thought and looking for a fight.  I choose to no longer participate. Bye.

but they consistently fail to call out China's disproportional share of global emissions.  Why??

Because we in the West can't do anything about it other than encourage them to change their ways. Those of us who support low carbon electricity generation have a hard enough fight here at home moving us away from fossil fuels - so we focus on what we can influence, and shy away from what we cannot. Clean up our own house first etc...

Really hoping Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford and Wilson start working closely together to come up with a 50 year growth plan that enables these 4 counties to almost look past the “county lines” and come up with transportation solutions…HQ relocation areas in each county (maybe like a tier 1, tier 2, tier 3, tier 4)…and like you suggest, a synergy that allows a “loss” in one area to be a gain in another.

The problem with this is that Metro (rightfully) wants to invest in transit while the suburban counties want nothing to do with it and will only support new roads and widenings.
