  1. I have a HUGE problem with this statement.  Yes, would parking lots help businesses thrive by better accommodating people that want to drive in from the sprawl?  Sure, and as a business owner (and a great one from what I've seen of your shop) you should desire that.  However, parking lots have NO place in a downtown.  Downtown is vertical.  If you want to park, you do it at a meter or in a garage.

Cleveland had/has a big problem with way too many surface lots.  Just now, almost 20 years after they started revitalizing their downtown are they finally getting rid of them with vertical buildout.  Parking lots are a very slippery slope.  Leave them to under I-4 (or in urban settings by including alley ways and including parking behind buildings, a la the Pizza Hut plaza across from SoDo).

Basically, walking around, I should never see your car unless you are driving it or its parked on the street.

I competely agree with this. More parking lots is the last thing I want to see downtown.

  2. Honestly, I cannot believe Winter Garden is even in close competition with DeLand. It is no contest, in my opinion. DeLand vs Mount Dora is the only close matchup. Personally, I hope DeLand wins, but Mount Dora is also deserving.

Avalon Park never should have beaten College Park.

  3. I actually think DeLand is a better pick over Winter Park.

Park Ave is gorgeous, but not everyone can afford to spend a day there. In fact, very few people can. DeLand's downtown has something for everyone, including record stores, clothing boutiques, all types of restaurants, a museum (and soon to be a children's museum), etc. DeLand is more of a "downtown" and Winter Park is more of a "shopping destination." I could live in downtown DeLand and have everything I need. There's even a Sav-A-Lot grocery store and an Asian Market downtown. Not true for Park Ave.

  4. I have an eerie feeling that parking lot is going to look very similar in 2014.

I'm curious, how many of UP'ers plan on using SunRail once it's up and running? I would ride the North/South Lymmo on a daily basis, but I don't have a use for SunRail.

I can see taking it into Winter Park, but that's about it. I have family in DeLand and may use it to get there and back once the entire line is up and running, especially if I need to travel during heavy I-4 traffic (although it is not conveniently located in DeLand).

How far is the Sanford station going to be from downtown there?

  5. Also took a look when I walked by during Spring Fiesta.  Excited to have you guys open.  Post looked like they were renovating their leasing office too.

Any word on your neighbors, WOB - and when they are opening?

Glad to have Central doing so well.   It should be even better once Lymmo starts rolling.

From what I understand, a washer flooded the laundry room above the leasing office at Post and damaged the ceiling and a lot of other stuff.
