Update on the "restaurant concept" at 125 East Main going before the DRB next week.  I got some more info about it, and now that I fully understand the concept, I completely support it.  It is essentially a "pop-up" restaurant made of shipping containers.  It's outdoors and temporary.  You may have seen / heard of these in other cities.  They're very popular right now.  According to the plans, there will be tons of picnic tables, a TV screen projected on the neighboring building wall, a stage for live music, fire pit, etc.  It actually seems awesome.

A more intriguing additional item on the agenda is "Preliminary Discussion with Developers of potential redevelopment of southeast corner of East Main Street and Pine Street".  That could be huge.

Looking forward to these developments!  Excuse my ignorance, but what does "temporary" mean for the FR8 Yard concept (other than I'm presuming the shipping containers would be replaced at some point)?

K BBQ appears to be a restaurant and catering service that will open its doors soon on W. Main Street next to Church's Chicken and across from QT, just west of Downtown.  Check out their Facebook page for more information: https://www.facebook.com/KBBQSC.

Also, Marco's Pizza will open shop soon in the former Starbucks at Hillcrest.

Finally, the Lee's Famous Recipe building at Hillcrest has been sold...but to who?

  3. This may belong in the Northside Developments forum, but Funtasia will come back as Fantasy Island this November.  The previous owners Clyde and Melody McFadden closed the doors on the then-named Blessed Fun at Funtasia earlier this year after 10 years.

Since my last post, it looks like the former Funtasia exterior got a new coat of paint.

  4. After success with Dollar General building on Hayne Street and Blackstock Road, Arcadia will now also be getting a Family Dollar store.  It will be located on Spring Street at the former Frankie's Grill site (across from Arcadia Elementary School and next to Signmasters and Roseart).

  5. Lees has been in that location for well over 20 years. They are moving to the old frame shop on Henry Street.

I just found out today that the chicken restaurant at Henry Street will now be called Hub City Chicken & More.  Unsure if this will be a completely new or different concept or almost the same as Lee's with same management and staff (but separated from Lee's corporate).  I was told it should be open in the next two weeks.

  6. Two Eastside updates: Dino's Subs & Seafood opened this week on Morgan Square.  It reminds me of a somewhat more-expensive hybrid of Captain D's/Long John Silver's and WingStop/TNT Hot Wings.  Throw in some Miami Subs.

The other news is that Fratello's Pizza, Pasta and Subs is locating in the former Mexico Lindo on Fernwood-Glendale.  No word yet on whether this is a second location or if they are moving out of their current Roebuck location.

  7. Westsider28, I talked again with someone at Motte & Sons (maybe one of their sons), and now they are planning on opening in August or September.  I consistently check their Facebook page and website to no avail thus far.

  8. Several options for dining and drinking will soon open on Spartanburg's east and west sides and in Downtown.  I spoke with a reliable source from Motte & Sons Bootlegging, and she said that they had some challenges from the city, but hoped to be open by the Fourth of July.  It will be located on Daniel Morgan Avenue behind the Marriott.

BBQ fan favorite Pig-Out, which has been located on New Cut Road for almost 15 years, will open a second location on Drayton Road on August 1 (in the old Spanky's).

Speaking of BBQ, Little Pigs BBQ will open in the former Baskin-Robbins/Dunkin' Donuts on W.O. Ezell Blvd later this summer.

And finally...the Westside will have a third location for Starbucks lovers to get their coffee fix...and its first stand-alone store.  It will locate in a newly-built strip, called the Shops at Blackstock, in a parcel which formerly served as locations for Brewmeister's, Hooters, and Hardee's.  Other tenants in the strip will include Men's Warehouse and Sleep Number.  It will also open later this summer.
