So this development does not include a hotel? I was really hoping for something like a Hard Rock for a weekend getaway only 30 minutes away.

It probably will have a hotel shortly after the casino’s opening, it’s a lot easier to build a casino quickly than it is a full hotel, they could build a temporary casino facility while they build the full infrastructure

What does "Vegas-style" mean? Just tables with dealers (i.e. not all video gaming)?

Yes exactly right, and also the type of slot machines they have would be random number generated based versus bingo based like you see at the casinos that don’t have compacts (agreements) with the state. On the surface you won’t be able to tell which is bingo based and which one is based off random number generators as they’ve become virtually indistinguishable. Also the compact they make with the state could limit them, especially if Cherokee gets involved, to the types of table games they offer. For example, maybe only blackjack, or maybe blackjack and roulette but not craps, etc... it is the in the benefit of both sides to make a compact as Catawba can offer more games if they make an agreement and the state would be able to collect tax revenue, versus if they don’t enter into a compact, Catawba can run bingo based (Class II gaming) but be limited in the games they offer and not have to pay taxes to the state

  3. I actually think this is great... US Bank should also take over the existing Ally Building once they leave... these moves would allow for a new speculative building to be constructed to hopefully attract a corporate relocation ultimately adding more jobs. And exactly like Ricky_davis said, this was the only building available that could serve for a mass corporate relocation in a type A office building... build another one and another company would come :)

All this talk of Native Americans makes me want to do an overnight trip to my favorite reservation that being the Qualla Boundary   Even if I am just charged slightly higher at the movie theater because I am not a tribal member.

Here is my go to newspaper when on the reservation

You should go check out their bowling lanes at the casino! It’s pretty cool

An outdoor game at BoA Stadium would be great.

I’m surprised that the Canes chose Raleigh over Charlotte.   They must have gotten a better deal in Raleigh when they moved from Hartford.

The owner of the Hurricanes probably thought it would be easier for them to gain corporate sponsorships and fan support in Raleigh where they are the only professional sports team in town as opposed to competing against the Panthers and Hornets for fan support and more importantly corporate sponsorship dollars...

  6. So hypothetically let’s say the land issue gets pushed through and Catawba now has the land in North Carolina to build their casino. They can only operate as a Class II facility until they agree to a compact with the state of North Carolina. Class II means bingo based. So they can have slot machines that their backend math model is based off of bingo patterns as opposed to random number generation as is the case with Vegas Style machines. The Catawba tribe can also operate a poker room but cannot have any table games like blackjack, roulette, etc... (a casual player most likely won’t be able to tell the difference in the slot machine that it is based off bingo vs a random number generator unless if they were to pay close enough attention to the help screen or in the corner where there is a bingo patter shown). The significance of Class II vs Class III is that Class II the tribe does not have to pay taxes to the state as a percentage of net win per slot machine, whereas for the Class III games they do.

I work with the Cherokee Casino operation and let me tell you they are wonderful people to work with

Aren't the new Air Force Ones suppose to be Boeing 747-800s?

Yea but that doesn’t matter for the runways for Charlotte... the current VC-25 (Boeing 747-200 variant) are specifically designed to be able to land on shorter runways in the event of needing to access a region with only a short runway available or a rough combat zone.

^^You aren't kidding about packing as many people into a single slot as possible.  Rode in an A380 London to Johannesburg this past month and that upper deck is tight.  The flight Charlotte to London had way more leg space than that flight.  I know BA designed their upper deck to be coach and pack us in like sardines but man that was an uncomfortable 11 hr trip each way.

British Airways is awful, I just flew them from London to Oslo, it was one of the worst flying experiences, tight space, old plane, and you had to pay for even water! As much as we complain about US carriers they are still way better than at least British Airways

Why were these particular models such failures? What's next?

Too expensive to operate because of fuel efficiency in large part to their massive size and 4 engines. Airlines are moving towards more smaller fuel efficient planes that they can run schedules more frequently between two destinations. For example, instead of having two daily flights let’s say between LA and London on a Boeing 747-8 or A380, Airlines now are leaning towards flying 4 daily flights between LA and London on A350s or Boeing 787s. And their operating costs believe it or not will probably be less with 4 daily flights vs the two just because of how expensive the jumbos are vs the smaller more efficient transcon planes.

A380s are a great idea in theory because of slot restricted airports like London Heathrow so airlines figured they can try to pack as many people in a single slot as possible, but the cost of operating the planes just haven’t made it entirely too worth it for the airlines. That’s why Emirates converted their new plane order to smaller planes like the A350 instead of ordering more A380s, which that decision killed the A380 program because Emirates was the largest operator.

If this building so happen to not be on the north side of Uptown like I do want, then the parking lot right between Ascent and BB&T Ballpark would be great!! Maybe some underground parking, nothing above. That whole lot could be used for one building to sit on. It would break up all those apartments in that area and bring a different type of foot traffic there. And lots of retail would do good in that area too.

Image result for s mint & s poplar charlotte

I actually think they need to use the lot where the Packard Place building is and Ink n Ivy. That’ll at least give them a College address.

Finally, a second carrier that will fly to South Florida!!!  AA's been dominating MIA/FLL for too long with no competition.  A 3rd carrier to MCO doesn't hurt either.

Don't forget about G4 in Concord. This add might cause some trouble for the ULCC boys out at JQF with their flights to FLL/Orlando-Sanford.

As a resident of Miami I am so happy about this! I was hoping for JetBlue but I’ll take anything to reduce the pricing even if it’s to FLL.

As far as G4 hopefully this will cause them to eventually consider CLT once the new gates are built... IMO they are limiting themselves by flying out of Concord where they may not draw as many people from the greater metropolitan area. I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to suggest a lot people may not even know G4 flies out of Concord...
