  1. Tel hope you dont mind that I stitched some of your photos together:

I will never get tired of looking at that view of the city...what a beautiful weekend it was too. Light Rail tracks are really moving along on brambleton in that photo...it's neat to see all the segments getting closer & closer to running into each other.

  2. Hey CaveMan, great pictures as always, but was there some sort of event at Town Point Park? I didn't know anything was scheduled.
It looked like an Asian cultural festival of some sorts, just in the small area next to waterside, not the entire park. What's being built in Portsmouth on the waterfront? You can see the silt fences up in this photo, which I apparently didn't post here...

  3. Hey varider i saw District 9 when it came out on the 14th, it was the best movie I have seen in years.
I agree with this, saw it on opening night at 5 o'clock...amazing film.

I also agree that your shots are great, nice work man!

  4. Yep we can all see it...and it's definitely gone!

Here's one of the flooding along the LRT path at york:

    Larger: Here

I think most of that was induced by the erosion & sediment controls for the construction going on along york...since they filter water slower as it enters the stormdrain inlets, it backed up worse here then it should.

  5. Hopefully all these utility projects where they're tearing up the roads are addressing this problem and upgrading downtown's drainage issues.

If not, light rail may have some problems on a rainy day.

They're upgrading utilities, meaning water, sanitary sewer, and sewer force mains. They haven't altered any of the storm drainage piping along the rail path I don't think, at least in the downtown itself.

I don't really see the huge issue with this type of flooding, it's bound to happen here at some point... people should plan for it and act accordingly, meaning dont park your vehicle in a spot you know is prone to flooding, and don't drive through 10' of water in a sedan... This is kinda what we should come to expect from living at 8 feet above sea level in an area that was historically marshland. There's just nowhere for all the runoff to go when it comes down at that high of a rate...

If you were downtown during it you would have seen water shooting up through all the storm drain structures because the flow in the pipes was just too high. I think we were lucky that there wasnt a strong southwest wind & an incredibly high tide...combine those factors with a high rainfall intensity, and that's when serious issues happen.

York Street looked pretty bad, brambleton had a lake on it, and Boush street was a warzone...took me over an hour to get home...from waterside drive! I enjoyed watching it from my balcony though once I got home...brambleton was an utter mess-

  6. Nice photos man! I really like the one along Main Street...what a great angle, and the one with the HRT bus in it...can't wait till that bus becomes a light rail train! You seem to be down here every weekend taking photos, lemme know the next time you are goin and I'll join ya!

  7. They should keep it purple. I like it!
LOL.... I agree with the parking garage statement, but, at least it is vertical and not taking up a lot of surface space. This is one thing Norfolk has yet to truly embrace, well planned, well hiddened garages...but oh well. At least this does provide density to an area that is currently lacking in it! Nice photos!
  8. I walked down to the market @ harbor heights last night to get some groceries, and cruised down college place. I had no idea there was all the stuff near that interesection that there is, it blends in so well with the residential look. As someone mentioned there's like a dentists office, a couple of stores, and there was an engineering firm there also. I can't picture machismo relocating here though, I'm so used to it's straight out of a tarantino movie feel, it'll be weird to adjust to a suburban feel for machismo.
