Thanks... I looked at the word "Promenade" ...I knew they did all over country...

Any word on a Dick's? I went home for the Derby, shopped at Dick's and I miss having a Dick's. I missed ZGallerie, Macy's, Nine West, Body Shop( skin care), etc.,

  3. I know there is one building that is empty that has a drink permit on the window and it is to the left hand side when you come into the center. It doesn't really stick out. There is some parking on the side of the building and I think a dumpter. I thought it would be Haverty's looking at the size, but it has a permit sticker for drinks.

  4. According to the plumbing permit site we can add Maggie Moo's Ice Cream and Treats. There is a location in NWA but it will be new to LR. Does anybody know if this is any good? I was hoping for a Ben and Jerry's.

Memphis has one in the Peabody Place. I like Marble Slab (flavor choices) better, was hoping to get one. I'm happy we are getting another ice cream shop, I love ice cream...we are working on a baby...I'm sure I'll be there.

  6. The state's first Apple Store is unfortunately going to the Promenade at Chenal. I think Midtown would be a much more popular location at the retail nexus of Park Plaza, Park Avenue and Midtown.

Also, I wouldn't worry at all about available space at Midtown. Strode is being very selective, plus he's now considering all his options with his own development (Park Avenue) across the street. And if he was nervous about tenants or the development, he certainly wouldn't be developing Park Avenue in the first place, which dwarfs Midtown.

Where did the random cell phone into play at Midtown?

  10. Welcome to the board.

I know that you are from Louisville and are used to having more retailers and even though Promenade Chenal is turning into Park Plaza West there are some things coming there that locals are excited about. J Crew has been one of the most requested retailers by members of this board as well as Apple. The IMAX is a big deal as well. Little Rock has an IMAX already, but it doesn't show first run movies, this one will.

A couple of silver linings about Park Plaza West. It shows that Little Rock (and not just central Arkansas) is getting large enough to support more than one of these retailers. Second, it almost guarantees that Park Avenue will have many new tenants that are new to the market.

Easy yes, closer I guess. I still want better for this city.

I have been in Arkansas off and on the last 14 years. I see that Arkansas "powers" do things to benefit themselves first. Some things take to long and a lot of the " city planning" lay outs ...did they think about growth at all? Don't get me wrong I love Little Rock now, but the decisions our leadership makes, is often confusing to say the least.

  11. Thanks for the summary. I don't really envision Louisville as being smaller than Memphis, though I guess that may be technically true (is this true for actual city (now county?!) population, MSA, or both?). Certainly it seems that Louisville may have a more prominent skyline.

MSA?? Never thought about it before.

Biggest Well, it is hard to answer that question, because Memphis seems to keep taking over all the areas around it ...it truly is the Mid south, everything south of Jackson, Tn. Then I truly wonder if they count Southhaven,MS and those areas around it.

With Louisville it truly depends on how the population is calculated.

Growing up we were always told Memphis was huge. Then I moved to Memphis ...If you include Germantown, Southhaven, Bartlett, Cordova and Collerville...yes sure...Memphis is what ...Music,Pork and crime ?????

Louisville skyline is beautiful. A wonderful city.

Louisville also did not have the tough times Memphis has put itself in over the years, with bad management "Crump".

I lot of downtown Louisville rebuilding/redevelopment starting in the 80s vs the 90s and even 2000s. Also, a lot of Louisville never died out either with the flight to the suburbs.

Louisville has or had B&W, Humana, UOFL, GE, KFCHQ, The Med/Dental school. They have more than two major health center and always have. Norton, University, Jewish, Baptist and St. Mary Hospitals

Then there is The Derby and other jobs, their historic hotels were booked during racing season and other activities in that area. The Art center built in downtown riverfront was built in the 80s. The Galt House was expanded in the late 80's. Louisville's population shift was a mixed bag. Some whites went futher East to the farm land to built huge homes . Some blacks (businessmen, doctors, and professors) moved into parts of downtowns old historic homes , some areas stayed mixed. Thus you still had money flowing and the need for a active downtown and suburban area. Louisville didn't have to try so hard to redevelop and they started sooner. Parts of Memphis and Little Rock downtown were dead after 5 during the late 80s and early 90s.

Biggest problem is Arkansas POLITICS AND LACK OF PARTNERSHIP...I'M THE RICHEST..no me ...NO US ...what am I going to get for this ...where is my cut and education/training ... UAMS/ACH/UALR/ should be the most imporant part of Little Rock.
