  1. Can you name a retailer that's dumb and racist in that it excludes customers based on race?

Surely such an idiot store would go out of business.

I wouldn't shop in such a place out of anger at such practices, and I am white.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....I have not called anyone dumb or racist in my posts......HMMMM......I guest people true colour's come out when the truth is told!

  2. Indeed this is the case. When they built the mall at Exit 18, it was at the upper fringes of the Charlotte City Limits. The city wanted it their way: get the tax revenue from the mall and surrounding establishments but get the residents of the upscale lake communities. I don't understand how they didn't see (especially with the shuttering of most of Eastland) that many of the residents of northwest and northeast/east Charlotte -- the demographics that Northlake was not going for-- would need a place to go. Taubman had poised Northlake to be (tenant-wise) a hybrid of Carolina Place and SouthPark, probably not expecting it to be the way it is now.

Northlake mall is a good example of planning at its worst. Building an enclosed car-friendly mall off of one of the busiest roads in the city and the intersection of two interstate highways. I believe it was one of the last, if not last or second to last, enclosed malls ever to be built. When they first proposed it, it was supposed to be like Streets at Southpoint in Durham and have a full "outdoor village" section (yes, not that much of an improvement but still a little bit better).. of course that never happened. I don't understand how developers haven't learned from Pineville and the sort about bad choices made in the past. Obviously I like malls, but these days they need to be better planned and utilized, and I'm so much more for the current malls being revitalized than building new superfluous sprawling structures across land creating this black hole effect. Part of the reason I'm against Bridges at Mint Hill happening, it would create so much more harm than good in the long run.

What about the upscale black neighborhoods around the mall they don't count?

  3. ^He said the Northlake store was the slowest in his entire company. Either the economy is much worse at Northlake (unlikely) or there are other factors at play. My guess is that it is due to very bad planning. The developers at Northlake hoped to make that place an upscale mall by attracting the people at the Lake area, but the demographics here are quite different that that of SE Charlotte and hence, they never showed up. Stores that cater to the high end are having trouble at Northlake because there is no customer set for them.

I also recommend that you stop trying to bait people into an argument. If you have something to say, then say it, but you don't need to accuse other forumers of misdeeds.

Mr sensitive, I'm you telling the truth.....hummmmmm.....the truth hurts.

  4. i work for a relatively upscale retail chain that has a store at northlake and the past two years i have watched as that stores volume drop dramatically and is now the lowest volume store in the company year to date. I often wondered what was going on...it all cant be blamed on the economy. A mall or store can appear busy, but are people actually buying? guesss not...

Why can't you blame it on the economy? This is real funny to me,store's are closing at south park mall............OH............but I bet you blame that on the economy!!!!!!This country

  5. You can't come to the mall one day and say if its doing bad or good, you need to come over a period of time to observe. You did come while it was CMS spring break and yes I'll agree with you it was busy and a few stores have changed their name. It just a matter of time before a lot more stores go out of this mall.

Brother, who do you get your info from? I'm at most of the malls in charlotte all the time and northlake is doing great as for as I can see!!!!It is pretty sad that people what things to fell these days that you can't even post a simple comment online without bashing something for no apparent reason. It's no wonder this country is headed down the toilet.I think but could be wrong it the afro-american teens that makes you feel this way.......this illusion killed eastland mall,Customers were afraid to come to the mall because of the hundreds of young blacks who congregate there, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights,"yes there was shootings there, but I never witness one in my 38yr going there .I did see a shooting at carolina place mall packing lot a few year ago.

  6. A man is not in the world to set it right, but to see it rightly. So I call it the way I see it, any fool can criticize, condemn, or complain-and most fools do. But it takes character and selfcontrol to be understanding. PLEASE tell me how urban stores are a negative thing, I thougth this was a urban form. I live in highland creek about four miles away from northlake and I see no decaying.I go to to this mall during the week and and I see good crowds , like every mall in the country there is more people shopping on the weekends. So mall_employee85 if this mall sucks so much, go work at southpark or go get that business degree!!

  7. It really makes no sense to me, because a reason why they opened this mall was for the lack of retail in North Charlotte....and yet it is doing poorly? And in the death of Eastland Mall I dont see what is keeping NL from thriving? Poor highway connection? Lack of something new and too many repeats? Too expensive? Too cheap? TOo much crime? I dont get it

This racism kills me!! I was trying to objectively listen to everything you all are writing, but I am against straitjacted thinking. I resect every mans right to believe whatever his intelligence(or lack of)tells him is intellectually sound, and I expect everyone else to repect my right to believe likewise. I go to this mall twice a week, and it is packed every time I go . I have never seen crime or gangs at this mall, but I have at southpark. So please stop writing ignorance!!
