  1. Not to be negative, but I am pretty sure they will add more international flights out of PHL at off peak times before they add them in CLT, for the simple reason of more O&D traffic. Figure a 8pm flight arrives in Europe around 8am the next day with the time change. Add a flight at say 8am in when gates are empty in PHL that arrives around 8pm in Europe. The return would leave around midnight in Europe and arrive around 5am into PHL.

    Philadelphia is a depeaked hub already.

    USAirways is not the only carrier to to use the international gates: Southwest, Delta, ETC.

    So yes, Philadelphia is pretty much maxed out, and Kirby has stated {forgot where I read this} that USAirways might have to reduce frequencies or cities {to Europe} if they can not get a hold of enough gates. There is a gate dispute between Southwest, and USAirways for international gates.

    Also, USAirways plans to add at least three new international destinations per year.

    Vienna/Paris/Rome/Dublin-Charlotte would be good routes. especially Dublin-Charlotte 4X weekly!

  2. I wonder how many flights Charlotte can pick up from Pittsburgh?

    12 more gates on concourse E just opened up. 12 gates is about 40 additional flights, if utilized properly.

    Maybe USAirways can now start expanding Charlotte, now that we have the aircraft {unfortunatly for Pittsburgh}.

    USAirways future longhaul fleet {Transatlantic/pacific}

    2: A-340 {2009}

    19: A-330 {2009}

    22: A-350 {2014}

    10: 767

    10+: 757 {2009}

    Right now, I believe USAirways longhaul fleet consist of:

    9: A-330

    10: 767

    3+: 757

    Philadelphia is pretty much maxed out of international gates for USAirways. Now that USAirways is pulling down PIT, maybe Charlotte can get enough connection flights for the rumored Paris/Rome/Dublin/Vienna-Charlotte

  3. Perhaps I'm in the minority here (not a big skyscraper guy), but I'd rather Trump's project NOT beat out BofA Corporate Ctr as the tallest... BofA is a beautifully designed building and has become an icon for Charlotte... I'd hate to see it be eclipsed. Besides, there is something to be said for having the tallest, most iconic tower right there at the historic center of town @ Trade & Tryon.

    Bank of America is going to disappear Whether Trump builds or not: 210 Trade, Wachovia, Vue, and Hearst are right up there challenging Bank of America's height.

    I, personally, can not stand skylines with no dominant tower.

  4. a charlotte paris flight would be great. how likely do you think this is?

    I think we are 96% likely to have a Paris flight by 2010.

    Usairways plans to add at least 3 new European routes a year: Phili is currently maxed out... Unless Philadelphia sorts out the gate dispute between Southwest, and Delta gates in the international terminal.... which is keeping USAirways from adding more European frequencies...

    If USAirways does plan to internationally expand Charlotte, the routes would probably be:

    Paris

    Dublin

    Rome

    Vienna

    These routes would not surprise me at all. Especially Paris, and Dublin.

  5. Looks like USAirways could be getting a few more Asian, or European slots.

    United Airlines is "spinning off several kew assets."

    United officials want to "Convert the assests into cash." This would mean selling 66 acres of it's headquarters, selling it's international routes, possible selling of the Frequent flier awards program they have. This {United milage plus} brought in 600 Million for the company in '06...

    Also, the selling, or joint venture, of it's base in San Fran.

    :rolleyes: United is a star member... USAirways is a star member....

    United wants to shrink, USAirways wants to grow internationally.

    ___________

    Rumour has it, if DoUgIe get's the aircraft, USAirways could see some new international Charlotte routes:

    Paris

    Vienna

    Dublin

    Tempe also wants 33 new "oceanic" flights by I think 2010 ?

    Just rumor though.

    Also, The Pittsburgh crew base is rumored to be shutting down in Jan.

    I think the DC operation is already bigger then PIT.

    Look for a big announcement in october; Another rumor.

  6. I know its probably not wise reawaken this topic without any fresh news or insider information, but I have been reading up on San Francisco's planned Transbay Transit center where they are building their citie's new tallest. Seeing the architects they have employed just to make a bid at the contract makes me hope trump's tower gets downsized (severely). The architects who created the cities iconic arte deco style with BofA and the Hearst are fending off against each other to create a 1000 ft+ masterpiece in San Fransisco. Our thousand footer (if its built) on the other hand will stand far from the focal point of our skyline, and will likely be another one of Donald's mediocrities. Even if you don't love art deco and hate the Hearst and BofA, I challenge any person to say trump will do better.

    I think Trump will make a awesome building in uptown ifit compliments One Charlotte, and WB...

  7. I agree. Charlotte is home to a few big banks, has major league teams and a nice skyline. But those features in of itself dont make a big city. I've been to cities like Chicago, Miami, ect and no city in the Carolinas comes close to those cities which have alot more cultural amentites and a greater importance in the United States and abroad. Charlotte is defiantly on the right track and is moving fast but isnt there yet. From people that I know outside of NC, they perceive Charlotte as being in the group of cities like Louisville, Indianapolis or Orlando and not among the likes of Boston, Dallas, Pheonix, Baltimore, ect. Its all relative and just depends on which cities you compare Charlotte to. If you compare Charlotte to Fayettville, NC yea its a BIG city. I know people that live in one stop light towns that look at Durham as the BIG city. It just depends on a person's perspective.

    I think Charlotte by 2010 will be in the league of Philadelphia, Dallas, and Pheonix... unless we are talking about population...

  8. OK, WCNC (formerly billed itself as NBC6) just said this on their 6PM news.

    "...the Trump organization is no longer going to build a highrise in uptown.". :o (straight from Sonya Gantt's mouth)

    Maybe they got it wrong, and I wouldn't be surprised they didn't do a more thorough job in investigating, but this sounds like the project has indeed been canceled.

    I think they mean it was canceled all together seeing how they said "highrise"...

    Oh well, can't say I didn't expected this to happen.

  9. From what I hear, the purchase of the 2 additional parcels (the QSM building and Faison building) has stalled. Apparently the appraisals came back indicating that Trump would be paying more than the properties are worth. The purchase of these two parcels is just stalled ..... NOT stopped. Negotiations are under way to look at the terms of each contract and possibly make some adjustments.

    Let's say worse comes to worse;

    Do you think Trump would still build a office tower on what he could?

    Would 300 South Tryon, or Novare pick up the lost office space?

    Would Novare develop a office tower on the other land they have?

    Would either of our banks build another office tower at the time being?

    ETC.ETC.ETC.
