  1. I'm kinda excited that we're going to have curbside recycling pickup next year. It was also cool to hear that the POSB beat out 20-30 cities around the country to land the new mill. Not quite the cyberspace gig, but, hey, I'll take it...

To SBC and MetLife- Go head on, what a snazzy hotel for Shreveport. That's what I am talking about!!!!!!! I am driving to Shreveport tomorrow morning !!!!!

  2. That's so sad that a group of people would have hate towards blacks because what ONE has done all of us aren't criminals so, it's basically jus ignorance. Whites commit crime too, alot of white men are sexual predators , but you don't see me and alot of others having prejudice towards them. One thing that I have learned is to treat everyone the same don't judge people , because the person who you are judging could be the one that saves your life. I know that black professionals flee the city, but there aren't none that I know of that become criminals . I accept your apology.

Please accept my apolgy. I just meant that blacks need to be given the same opportunuities in New Orleans as white. Just think of all the great minds that are leaving NOLA. A city that produces everyome from Prima, Marsalis, Armstrong to Connick to Lagasse and the world best cusinem music and culture can't bounce back. New Orleans area is home to one of the largest ports in the world, oil reserves. Did anyone know that pound for pound Louisiana has more natural resources than any other state.

    Housing:

Develop large subdivision basis on NOLA architecture

    Traitors list:

    Ruth Chris

  3. If that message was directed towards me I'm not a traidor , but I tell you what I will not live in a city were everything is in shambles . I've been helping rebuild New Orleans East before Katrina. People are leaving New Orleans ,because they've had enough with the polotics. Katrina didn't run alot of our residents away our poloticians did. I would'nt be suprised if polotics plays a role in thsi development. As for being lazy if I was so lazy I would have never gone to MedSchool for 8 1/2 years and becoming a successful Doctor and a graet Father and Husband. Slidellwx I get what you're saying I'll give it time.

Don't give up-run for office and change things. It is just a shame that a city with New Orleans potential is being wasted. Traitors are companies like Ruth Chris who left new orleans. Maybe a Marshall plan is needed for New orleansone that screws bureauracy and get some express service for the resident there. I am sorry that I offend you but I love the city and its culture. Who was the last gool politician NOLA had? Is Bobby jindl the saviour. The Creoles, African Americans, Sicilians, Irish, Hispanics and Vietnamese can still save this city if they work together. One of the reason whites are so prejudice against blacks is becasue of the crime. The professional blacks do have point becasue they have been held back by NOLA good old boys for so long that they flee to Houston, Atlanta or Dallas or become criminals

  4. I wouldn't call this project languishing. They are still demolishing the place. It takes time to do these things right. The Lowes is going up, and that will be the first catalyst in redeveloping this area. The East needs retail options, and this is the most logical place for retail to locate. Consider this, there has been little if any work done on the massive lifestyle center going up in Covington, and that's been discussed for 2 years on this forum. In that time, the developers have lined up an impressive array of stores, and the development should begin this summer. It just takes time to get things in place. Let the developers in NO East at least market the site for a few more months before getting too upset. Ashton Ryan is a sound businessman, and I do not doubt he will get the job done.

When I lived in Newnan, GA, a huge outdoor shopping center was discussed for nearly 3 years before any dirt was turned on the site. Coweta County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation, and it took that long for everything to fall into place.

I am so tired of these lazy , that a do Louisianan who can get there stuff together. Especially, in New Orleans. you rather go to Atlanta thatn buld your own community up-Traitors. Developer now it your time to shine-where are the Donald Trumps of NOLA. New Orleans inner core and culture is much better than Dallas or Atlanta. Where is the former KKK David Duke doing-instead of hating he should be helping the NOLA metro area. How can the greatest city in the South be run by such fools. Nagin get off your butt and curse the congress again.

Great areas for development after the levees and marshland are fix are Lake Borgne and St Bernard Parish and along the Miss River.

i hope I can get some amens

  5. I'd like to think so. :) I wonder where Money Magazine is getting their numbers, though? Because the U.S. Census Bureau is reporting Bossier having broken the 60,000 mark in '05 but Money Magazine puts the city at 58,000. I'm tempted to not believe their numbers unless I can see where they got them from. I've never seen an estimate put Shreveport at more than 205,000 people, let alone 216,000. On that note, however, like I said, I'd like to think they're right. I'd LOVE to think they're right.

You know I've looked over that Top 100 list, and I didn't see a single Louisiana city on there. Not Shreveport, not Baton Rouge, not Lafayette, nothing. That's pretty disheartening.

I think the U S census numbers are just estimates too. If Shreveport has grown so much on the Southeast side of town this figure could be possible. I know Shreveport took in some Katrina victims and I know the hispanic community is growing there as well. Bossier City is growing fast also. I project around 65,000.

On another note Sports Clips , I believe was started by Jay Novachek the former Dallas Cowboy tight in.

Since Shreveport is so close to Dallas , I am quite sure that they will be getting more new franchises.

it looks like SBC is beginning to take off

  6. I could have gotten it wrong with 175,000... it might have been 185,000. As a matter of fact, I believe it IS 185,000. Little Rock is around 180,000 and is actually expected to pass Shreveport up in the next Census.

I'm with you, it seems strange to have a city that's growing so much residentially and commercially actually losing population! But that's what the latest Census estimate says. The big loss of population shows that all the new home construction in southeast Shreveport isn't slowing things down at all. That shows just how many people are moving out, and it seems the vast majority are moving to any of the following places: Bossier City, Benton, Haughton, Greenwood, Stonewall. This is why Stonewall is experiencing major growing pains right now, because people are moving down there just to be out of the city. Sad, isn't it?

Right now, Jerry Jones is ahead by a narrow margin. Let's all hope to God that he wins and this city is able to change for the better. With the people who are supporting Glover, there is no doubt in my mind the city will stay the way it is right now. I'm watching the election results come in little-by-little on the Times' main page, and it's scary to think it's as close as we all figured it would be!!

I disagree, I think Shreveport population is around 215,000. See Money Magazine estimate below of best places to live

All I can say man that it is really sad that Shreveport is losing population. Really sad!

  8. As a Louisiana native and fan of New Orleans I personally couldn't be happier to see the development of the CBD and surrounding areas. New Orleans always deserved better but was overshadowed by Texas cities and Atlanta. People loved visiting but businesses went elsewhere. There's no reason New Orleans couldn't maintain its rich heritage, preserve its historical districts and become a thriving metropolis like Houston, Dallas and Atlanta. Sadly the dream of a bustling New Orleans was severly hampered by Hurricane Katrina but thanks to people like Donald Trump New Orleans rebuilding might put it back on the business map, better than ever. With condos people may once again live in New Orelans and not just work there. Again I look forward to seeing New Orleans skyline rise upward with those beautiful new buildings and the city get what it's deserved for so long.

Cross road man you hit the nail on this one. New Orleans will one day regain its crowna as the South's greatest city.

  9. PF Chang in San Antonio and Austin is way overrated and over priced. J Alexander you get great bang and value for the buck. Does SBC have a Zio Italian restaurant or a Rudy's BBQ chain yet. Fuddruckers and the Macroni Grill got it start in San Antonio. what are some of the new chains plan or coming to SBC.

Oh I forgot my favorite Deli of all time- Jason Deli' I hope Shreveport-Bossier has one or planning to get one. Whoever in SBC gets that franchise has a gold mine.

  10. You can truly see how much Brian loves his area (SBC) and all the devlopements that take place. That's really cool. I hope Shreveport gets PF Changs, JAlexander, etc. It should be just a matter of time.

PF Changs just opened last year in the new "hip" corridor of BR on Corporate Blvd at the new Towne Center. On weekends there are still hour-long waits. So I have never eaten there, but would like to. Maybe a week-night would be better??

  11. There was a special section in Sunday's Times titled 'Living Here: A Guide to Your Community.' This section finally made it to their website today, and I'm proud to post it here. Page 43 of this 64-page section gives a comparison between North and South Bossier City.

    Enjoy.

Its a shame so many neighborhood area were left out - I know Southern Hills and South Highlands were.

It was a nice brief of the area of SBC for people trying to remeber Shreveport- I remember Fair Park represented the near west and Byrd Hi represented the near East. Is the Spring Lake area included in Cedar Grove? Is the Bert Kouns Loop a part of I 220 to make a circular loop around the city. What is Shreveport-Bossier underground newspaper called? I think an outsider could get the real skinny from that media

  12. Compared to east/southeast BR, it's a real different place. Also shows where the money is (and isn't) around town. I like driving around there though just to get a sense of where our 225,000 (?) folks come from. It's a large chunk. Also, Tony's Seafood is out there and they are awesome! The demographics in BR are very similar to Memphis'.

I thought Baton Rouge population was about 500,000 and 800,000 in the metro. I heard the city population double after Katrina

  13. Here is the picture in the paper of the Lakefront Condos

Man that looks awesome !!! What that in Friday's New Orleans paper. I wish I could see a computer module of what the city woul look like in 2 years. I am also interested in replacing East N.O. neighnorhood with the a new orlean styule housing for the returning evacs. I think that if New Orlean /Biloxi/Baton Rouge area one day will rival anything on the East coast except for Florida

  14. I actually have taken photos at River Bluff but I don't know what ever happened to them. They probably just got mixed in with my other construction photos and pushed aside.

Yeah, living near an interstate or a loop is excellent. I love only about 1/2-mile from I-20 so I understand that completely. And I grew up about 1 mile off I-20 and 2 miles off I-220 in a different part of the area, so hopping on the interstate or the loop to get around has always been part of my life.

As for those neighborhoods, I'm not sure what all you'll be able to find on Mapquest but you may find some. That area changes every time I go out there, and there are so many streets that weren't there this time last year. There are even new shopping strips that weren't there this time last year.

If you drove through that area years ago it would have been nothing but farm land. Even as recently as 5 years ago, most of it was undeveloped. It's changed a lot and I love driving out there just to witness the rapid growth.

The schools are very important, because the Bossier Parish School System consistently ranks among the top systems in the state, so people are moving from Shreveport to Bossier just for the schools in many cases.

Why don't Shreveport and Bossier City merge and become one city

  15. I saw that, and was actually getting ready to post the link to it.

While I don't agree with most of Bradley's platform, I do agree that the downtown area needs more residential options, including condos. However saying the riverfront needs to be revitalized is far from the truth. Our riverfront is gorgeous and is envied by many cities. Barnwell is now being updated, which will fit in with the recent riverfront enhancements nicely. Now outside of the downtown area, we could thin out the trees and underbrush, though, giving better views.

I also disagree with him about our 'gaming' economy. While it's very large here, it's been slacking off over the last few years and we have diversified quite a bit since it came onboard. Yes, it would make a difference, but it wouldn't be the end-all be-all. And since I'm a proponent of casino growth since it's been so good for our local economy, I believe if the size restrictions were removed we would have more casino growth.

Bradley for Mayor. What are Bradley issues that you disagree on?

  16. Was this building built for the Chamber or did it have another use?

This bldg the old library is one of the most beautiful bldg in the South and right in the middle of the the most cosmos area of the city. Would love a pic of this bldg surrounded by the huge skyscrapers. Would love pics of the highlands area to include Fairfield and the churches on the Kings Hwy and Line Ave and all the beautiful churches in the area

  17. Not really trying to... just tired of comparisons between a city of 200,000 and a city of over 1,000,000. There is simply no comparison.

I can't believe how short sighted some people are. don't you know that other cities are competing agianst SBC for industry. I am not comparing for the sake of comparing but I there is no excuse for Shreveport to be so static= Other cities have long diversified their economies that spark growth. I can name numerous mid size cities in the Southland that are surpassing Shreveport. When the pop is static for thirty years something is wrong their. Bossier city pop has not grown that significant either. The pop of Shreveport s.b at least 300,000 and Bossier s/b at leat 100,000 in the city limits alone. Hey I love SBC as much as you do . I am just tired of the area being the bridesmaid and never the bride.

  18. ^With the people and companies moving there, do you think Bossier City's CBD will get some new multi-storied office buildings ?

FYI- San Antonio had gained 185,000 people just in the city limits since 2000, not counting the huge gains in the metro area. What is happening there. Where other city brag about getting big developemnts you are just satisfied getting a Super Target store.

shreveport is three times the size of Bossier, I think that Shreveporter are starting to get jealous of Bossier.
