  1. I believe Larson's point was that he could actually get some funding for I-91 due to it blocking the Colt National Historical Park from the River. I-84 has nothing to do with Colt, so there would be no connection, and no reason, for the Feds to give money for that project.

Thats what I mean, screw Colt, infrastructure is the most important thing,I84 must be dealt with not some private and somewhat shady project like Colt.I wonder how much money is lost daily due to traffic tie-ups on 84?91 isn't perfect but gridlock in the area near the Colt building isn't nearly as bad as the main east-west thoroughfare in the Capitol region.Besides I91 is built on top of a dike and how do you deal with the Park river which empties in the Ct river half way between Colt and the CCC?

  2. V of R,what is your fascination with burying 91?Riverfront Recapture was a great success and now people want to link the city with the river, its already been done.....84 is a much more urgent project that needs to be dealt with right now. What the hell Larson was thinking when he talked about 91 I'll never know, maybe its one of those things where a congressman reaches for the earmark he thinks is most likely to be approved even though burying 91 is unnecassary.Get on the Aetna viaduct I84 project Mr.Larson, its much more important.

  3. While I love the idea in dream world, I don't see feasibly how I-91 could be buried from the Colt Building past downtown. ConnDOT would have to sink the road beneath the Park River conduit and make significant modifications to the recently reconstructed Whitehead Highway interchange. Such a project would cost billions of dollars and I don't think anyone would be willing to pony up such a sum.

With that said, I think it is very plausible to extend the convention center plaza over I-91 between the Whitehead Highway and Founders Bridge. It might also be plausible to build something on top of the northbound lanes between the Founders and Bulkley Bridge.

If any expressway needs to be buried in Hartford, it's I-84. Replacing the aging Aetna viaduct gives ConnDOT some leverage in securing greater amounts of Federal transportation dollars for replacing the viaduct with a sunken expressway or tunnel.

I agree Peddler, after 15 years of fund raising for Riverfront Recapture Larson wants to bury the one highway which has been modified and simply ignore 84 and the Aetna viaduct, what an #**$@&!

  4. There has to be high end retail IMO. The Hartford area is lacking high end retail, and the area has one of the highest per-capita incomes in the country. Put some stores in that you can't find in Connecticut and people will be forced to visit Hartford. Putting a Bobs store or a TJ Max isn't going to acomplish anything.

Having a few high end chain restaurants would also be nice. I know people on this board hate chains, but they are needed to draw most people. Capital Grill anyone? Legal seafood? How about a book store in front street? We all want it @ H21 but front street would probably work just as well or better.

ESPN needs to add a venue, and I think they should add a true ESPNzone not a smaller place like first thought. ESPN calls Connecticut home and there needs to be some sort of connection with downtown. Imagine them putting a ESPn zone with a studio for smaller shows! Wow, that would be amazing.

Maybe they could shoot Cold Pizza there
