That's a much more reasonable price range.
I think your PhD candidate would not live in Allston/Brighton, that's more working class/college ghetto. I'd place them in Brookline or in Cambridge.

Hmmm...I would suggest maybe Beacon St. in Brookline or Commonwealth Ave. in Brighton.....both of those streets have houses similar to the brownstone style, with 2BRs in the $400k range, and some have parking....

Sorry for the confusion. Not being American and not understanding the Boston housing value system REALLY puts me at a disadvantage. I did some rejigging and revaluation of where I would LIKE the story family to live.
A place is bought for $600,000 either in Allston, Cambridge or somewhere in the Fenway. I know some exist at a lesser asking price because I've seen photos http://bostonpads.backbaypads.com/viewfeatured.php?ID=75
I hope that's the buying price.
Does anyone know of people owning property like the solid brick rowhouse I am ideally after? Where would a professional couple have ideally set up a new home with this in mind? Anyone have any Fenway street area photos?
I greatly appreciate your help as the only alternative is to SEE the places for myself, and I ain't got the cash to fly over at the moment -

Yep...that's Commonwealth Ave. in Back Bay...it's either the 1st or 2nd block in from the Public Garden....it's fairly pricey, but those brownstones are mostly split up into a range of studios to 2 bedroom units. A studio can be as low as $250k with a 2br running about $1.5M....some of the places are still single family homes that will run in the $5M-$15M range.

These pictures illustrate the beauty of Boston for me, the mix of traditional and modern.
Pardon my ignorance but I'm not from around these parts
The 9th picture down: where is that area? Looks really expensive. Is it Back Bay, Commonwealth Avenue or none of the above?
Looks like the kind of place professionals would live, like doctors and the such like.
Anyone have any interior shots of those places, links etc? I'd appreciate a peek..lol.
