  1. Did anyone go to Snug Harbor this weekend? How was it?

I went Fri. night around 9:00 pm. It was a cozy atmosphere with a nautical theme. They had a DJ spinning cool music and everyone was hanging out at the bar.Everyone was welcoming and it was just like any other PM establishment, where you can go by yourself and not feel uncomfortable, and pretty soon your talkin to someone. They had a great bar, couches for chillin, and a nice sized back patio with a beer tub and what looked like a future fire pit. They already have a great lineup of bands booked. Should be a successful addition to the hood!

  2. Drove by old Fire and Ice today and noticed Snug Harbor is finally open for business. It was dark so I could see inside. It looked really cool inside and inviting. Also, they had a really large deck and patio area out back with lots of cool stringed- up lighting. Seems like a really good addition to what is already going on in this area. A live music venue is finally back in the PM. You bet I'll support this place-starting tommorrow night!

  3. I went to Common Market with friends late Sat. afternoon to grab a wrap. I was shocked how busy the district was. They were lined out the door at the Penquin, Thomas St Taverns patio was full and lots of prople strolling around the area. PM is on a roll. I cant wait to see what Conformity comes up with. I would love to see the corner of Pecan & Central developed where the CVS and Family Dollar are located. Great view of the city and location.

That parking lot between CVS and Family Dollar is such prime location for development.I can't believe it hasn't been yet,but I'm sure there are reasons for this unutilized property.

  4. I am formulating plans, but not for a building....not yet. I haven't heard from all the right people. A few yes, but not all.

    What are your thoughts?

Restaraunt and retail are in high demand here.Every restaraunt that opens in the PM does well. With Jack's ,Soul,Petra's Piano Bar, and Snug Harbour coming this way, the Pecan-Central-Thomas-Commonwealth box will be a major stroll-district hot spot not only for those living here but also for those in other areas. My wife is from Philly and lived in Manhattan for some time, and she believes a place like "The Point" would do great here. She describes it like a bookstore-live accoustic music -coffee shop hang.Something you can do during the daylight hours as well as night .Check it out online and see what you think.

  5. This is fantastic news for Charlotte. We need a place that caters to this crowd. The Attic does a decent job of it during its less-busy hours. If you go before 10, you'll hear nothing but Kings of Leon, The Subways, Hard Fi, and the like. After 10, the hip hop starts, though. I can guarantee that I'll be a regular at this place.

Yes, maybe we will finally get some good indie acts without having to drive to Cat's Cradle.I know the building is rather small, but some of the best shows have been at very small venues.

  6. Hey CLTNative, I know I'm being lazy and I should read through all 20+ pages of this thread to find out, but can you tell me the 4 venues you are talking about. I see the piano bar and the Soul place, but what are the other two?

I have a particular interest because I am hoping to move there very soon... put an offer in on a house today, so wish me luck!

Oh, and has anyone heard rumors of plans for any kind of coffee joint around there? I have not seen one or heard of one in that area. Sure wish somebody would open a cool neighborhood coffee hang out!!

Nova's next to Fuel Pizza offers coffe and a few couches/chairs to hang. It woulfd be sweet if there was a more hip coffe house.Smelly Cat, want to expand to the P.M.?

  7. Good luck on the house! Welcome to the hood!

    The venues are:

    1. Jackalope Jacks relocation from 7th street to the former Steeple/Spot location

    2. Petra's Piano Bar in former Fire & Ice Location

    3. Zada Jane's Corner Cafe beside Central27 condo building (Thomas St. owner)

    4. Sol - Tapas to be located above Lotus

    Very exciting!! :yahoo:

Everyone- please correct me if I got any of this wrong.

Actually the Piano Bar is going on Commonwealth next to Penguin. The former fire and ice building I heard, was going to be a indy rock/ alternative /music venue hip lounge sort of thing.Which would be nice to have something other than jam music around here.

  8. I don't know if it's been mentioned here, but I met a guy today who is putting a restaurant in above Lotus in the old Perch location. I was at Starbucks on Pecan talking with my friend about Las Ramblas, and we started chatting with him. He told me he and a couple of other guys were creating Soul (I think that's right...) - a tapas restaurant with a patio on top of Lotus. He hoped it would be done by June.

I don't know about you, but I'm excited. I love that Midwood is attracting independent restaurants that will require me to leave my children at home.

Does anyone know any other information? This gentleman was really nice. I'm looking forward to enjoying a drink on the patio.

Was the gentleman older with gray hair and beard? If so, I spoke with him about 3 years ago when the Perch moved. He said back then that he was putting up a restaurant in a couple months but years passed and nothing happened.
