  1. Speaking of Mexican....

This was in the classified of the SHJ today:

    NOTICE OF APPLICATION

Notice is hereby given that CHIPOTLE MEXICAN GRILL OF COLORADO, LLC intends to apply to the South Carolina Department of Revenue for a license/permit that will allow the sale and ON premises consumption of beer, wine and liquor at 1490 W O EZELL BLVD, SUITE A, Spartanburg, SC 29301. To object to the issuance of this permit/license, written protest must be received by the SC Department of Revenue no later than the 10th of June, 2011.

  2. Here's my two-cents I emailed to Penny Phillips at the SCDOT:

As a life-long resident of Boiling Springs, seeing the plan for the SC 9 project with landscaped medians, sidewalks, and bike lanes makes me proud as a resident. It seems there is much dissent from folks wanting to, basically, lay down a stretch of asphalt with nothing more. I know the term money talks and I

  3. Googling Del Taco and Spartanburg I found this:

"For Del Taco, 2007 deals included 5 new restaurants in Toledo,

Ohio; 4 in Chattanooga, Tn.; 3 in Atlanta, Ga.; 2 in Kansas City; 4 in

Northern California; 3 in Athens, Ga.; 10 in Orlando and Gainesville,

Fl.; 3 in Knoxville, Tn.; 7 in Nashville; 3 in Fresno, Ca.; 1 in

Ontario, Ca.; 3 in Spartanburg, S.C.; 16 in Southern Alabama; and 12

    in Baton Rouge, La."

Anyone ever eaten at a Del Taco? I could only hope its like Chipotle but won't get my hopes up too high!

  4. Looked at their website. They have them in TN. That's the closest location. I wish someone would build some healthier places to eat up here like a deli or the like. There are a lot of places to choose from but they are all more of the same. Burgers, hot dogs, or more burgers.

  5. Okay, it's not Jay's, but I found it. I just did a quick google search for landscaping places on parris bridge rd.

    So, here's the pic!

    CrookedCreek.080515.jpg

That's the sign to the Crooked Creek subdivision on Old Furnace Rd. between Paris Bridge and Bryant Roads next to the District 2 offices.

  6. Nothing to do with development but has anyone else noticed the CATS Vanpool van that is at the Exxon on 9 at Paris Bridge Rd. Apparently people ride it to Charlotte becuase its always there in the evenings but gone during the day. I find it interesting public transit would run that far from CLT. I looked into it but didn't see one listed from Spartanburg/BS on this website

  7. Hate to be a party pooper and steer discussion away from Wild Wing/Taters but I wanted to throw out a review of Las Palmas. It's in the new shopping center between the eastside WalMart and Tractor Supply on E. Main.

Saw the review in HJ Escape and it spurred my interest. I was very impressed. I was assuming it would be a lot like Mexican but would liken it more to Indian if anything. Fried plantains were excellent as well as the black beans. Tried the Malta India which was billed by the waitress as beer but after drinking it and subsequently reading about it online it is more akin to a soft drink as it has a negligible amount of alcohol. It was extremely sweet and was basically watered down molasses with carbonation. I guess it's an acquired taste but don't let my description dissuade you from giving it a shot. I finished off with a Cuban coffee which is an espresso shot with sugar syrup. Very strong. Very tasty!

All in all a great addition to Spartanburg's dining scene! Give it a try!

  8. Baskin Robins has re-opened both its Spartanburg locations. The oner of Hub City Coffee is behind it. This is good news for downtown, which suffered from the loss of the location at Main & Pine. This is another one of those things about downtown that is decentralized. I'm still hoping for an ice cream shop closer to Morgan Square.

It seems like the Main & Pine area (about 1 block in all directions) is becoming more of a secondary restaurant hub within downtown.

To back that up, I noticed the new shopping center between Kennedy and Pine adjacent to the new Arby's has a sign up that DD is coming soon. DD aka Dunkin' Donuts.

  9. InterContinental Hotels will open a new 96 room Holiday Inn Express on Hwy 221 in Spartanburg at the intersection of I-85. With all the energy that has been happinging on the corridor between Greenville and Spartanburg, it is good to see some things going on on the Spartanburg/Cherokee County side. Hopefully, this will help the Upstate Corporate Park that's not far away.

    ARTICLE in the HJ.

Seems as if the other hotel they just built there was a Holiday Inn Exp. and then changed to a Hampton Inn? Seems strange to build another one.

  10. Speaking of lake Bowen... There is a lot of dirt being pushed around at the intersection of hwy. 9 and Edwards road beside Lakewinds. I'm hearing that a Publix is on the way.....

That would be sweet! No more Ingles monopoly and having to drive to the eastside for Publix.
