  1. New video on The Image Mill Facebook page that shows the cinema reel at night. Beautiful stuff. Check it out if you're heading out for a final look at the Top 25.

Artist is Scott Hessels of Grand Rapids/Singapore. Entry is "The Image Mill". It's a zoetrope cinema reel that is powered by the waterfall outside of Ford Museum. Sustainable art! Nothing like seeing natural resources power something so peaceful and beautiful.

If you feel like voting for this, you can text 27061 to 878787.

    Enjoy the art tonight!

  2. I think there's a somewhat of a kickoff tonight in Lyon Square (where the press conference was).

If you go to Lyon Square tonight, then be sure to take the short walk over the bridge to check out the exhibits near the Ford. Scott Hessel's sustainable cinema reel, The Image Mill, is up and running and should be lit at night, too. He's got the zoetrope (original cinema wheel) going using only the waterfall to power the wheel (and the light that is powered by the movement of the wheel).

Learn more about Scott's exhibit and see some terrific short videos on the piece here:

  3. Any venues held by our dear friend Azzar?

ETA: It just dawned on me that a way for others to "cash in" would be to sell postcards depicting the art. Start shootin'.

P.P.S. On Cyburbia, someone posted photos of a tacky 1960s post office and asked for facade improvement suggestions. I've brought him here.

Here is Scott Hessels website for his ArtPrize exhibit: The Image Mill - sustainable cinema.

  4. Women's Resource Center is hosting their 20th annual Pillar Awards luncheon on Wednesday, March 25 at the Amway Grand. Event runs 11:45-1:30. Tickets are $50 each. 5. CertifiChecks went out of business and left a lot of people and organizations stranded. Check out LF website for details on how to request a refund from that company: www.localfirst.com. Also, the $15 Local First Coupon Books are not affected by this. They're still available and being accepted by participating retailers. There has been some confusion about these two offerings.

Just to be clear: Local First is not going out of business. The vendor that maintained their gift certificate program, CertifiChecks, is going out of business. Lot of rumors circulating about LF being in financial trouble, and that's false.

  6. I just got an e-mail telling stores to stop accepting Local First gift certificates because the issuers, CertifiChecks, shut down. I hope you guys used your certs! Unfortunately, I'm sitting on $20 or so still that it looks like I won't be able to redeem.

    Edit: GR Press Article

  7. The Wyoming DDA is presently seeking an executive director. (A concept which caused much hilarity at 300 N Monroe last week. "They don't have a D!") I'd apply, but it would be sortof like adding bicycle parking to the median of M-6.

In other news, the Knight's Inn is coming down. The strip closest to the freeway has been leveled.

Studio 28 is holding a press conference on Friday. Speculation that Meijer is going to build on that land.

  10. Yes to both. The parking ramp will have MSU's new medical bldg on top and the Towers will be replaced with a new medical bldg as well.

Wow, so MSU is only taking one of those buildings? I thought those were all MSU, except the new LH. I'll have to go back on this thread to bring myself up to speed on all this. Amazing stuff going on up there. Between these buildings, phase II of VAI and the new DeVos Children's, someone should call an architect/commercial design magazine so they can highlight these awesome buildings.

  11. Haha...I know exactly where that is :whistling:

Geez...Green Well, Meanwhile, new coffee house, ICCF, etc., etc...looks like East Hills is the place to be!!!

Sign is up at The Green Well. It's 924 Cherry, just next to the DA Blodget building. grand opening events start next week: www.thegreenwell.com
