  1. There's a lot in the works for Shreveport's growing port, which is expected to double in size in just 10 years:

Port of Shreveport-Bossier on a growing mission

I like hearing about Port news and the industrial development going on down there. I agree with the ideas of providing extra services to the customers of the port, but I have never found out why we were unable to build the port power plant down there. Just wondered if anyone else knew anything. I think maybe it had something to do with the permitting process.

  2. You're right, South Bossier isn't growing as much. It's more like it's getting cramed. My wife and I were going to build in Savannah. But, like everyone else has said, who wants a house near railroad tracks and right near the base. I can stand planes, but planes AND trains! Plus, you have to go through every other neighborhood to get there. Imagine what it will look like when the older neighborhoods are starting to deteriorate. As far as Bossier High School goes, last time I heard (2001) it was supposed to be shutting down for constantly failing some inspection. You know, the one that they see how well students are taught. There's really no need for Bossier High, IMO. The old BPCC campus is totally deserted, so I see no reason why Airline shouldn't expand. Or tear BPCC down and extend. Who knows.

Aw now, south Bossier ain't so bad. After a while you don't even notice the trains. They become a part of your routine. Both planes and trains together beats some other problems we could have.

  3. you'd think that Airline would be getting at least expanded.. They are going to build a new Parkway highschool near sligo road that's supposed to be huge and south bossier isn't growing nearly as much as north bossier.

Actually south Bossier is growing quite a bit, tho' not as rapidly as the north end. Check out the Savannah Place and the south end of Golden Meadows, some empty Southgate lots and the Gardens of Southgate and Tara. The 71 to Jimmie Davis traffic during morning rush is rapidly becoming bumper to bumper, I kid you not. I don't ever see commercial development ever being strong down here, however. Fairly easy access into southeast Shreveport shopping will prevent that as well as a tight traffic situation.

BTW- Why shouldn't Airline be allowed to use the complete facility of the former BPCC campus? Does BPCC still hold any classes there? I think it's ridiculous not to be able to.

  4. HOLY cow, who'd'a thunk it!?!? It appears the old Fountain Tower apartments have been renovated and are now LUXURY apartments overlooking the city! They're called Highland View now, and the property is supposedly gated, the apartments have granite countertops, WIFI access, and there's a spa and business center on-site. This is excellent news for a part of Shreveport that REALLY needed something nice and new like this. Sure it's an old building, but apparently new life is being breathed into it. This explains why I've been seeing lights on in apartments on the top floor lately... here's an excerpt from the link posted below:

Everyday I pass this on I-49 but only occasionally do I get a glimpse of it. Just wondered the other day what was going on there at the old Fountain Towers. Well this is a surprise! Really cool! Would like to check it out just for curiousity's sake.

  5. Well thanks, buddy. :)

Yeah I wish everyone had it as well. Unfortunately, if you ever read the Shreveport Times forums, you'd think that everyone in this area is anti-development and thinks this place is a stink hole. What a shame, really. This place is light years beyond what it was back in the late 80s, and we should all be so proud.

John Good is my new hero! :)

Your welcome, man-and I think John is mine too. Do you know if he has ever won any of those awards like athena, etc.? I think he would be a good candidate.

  6. If you're talking about THIS Brian, I sure appreciate that.

Yes, John Good is EXCELLENT for this area. I hope this project is a huge success and that he builds on the success of this and the Boardwalk and continues to build bigger, better projects. Other cities like Baton Rouge have left us in the dust recently with developments like this, so it's great to see someone from our area really stepping forward!

Oh yes Brian, I am talking about you! You definitely have the boosterism. I have it once more. Wish everyone had it in the metro area! And John Good is really great for our area.

  7. I've been driving by there every tuesday night.. wondering what was going on there... only concern is that there are a lot of trailor parks all up and down that road.. hope it doesnt discourage travelers as they come into town.

I agree. The trailer parks and sales lots do look terrible. I wish there was a way to instill civic pride in those owners. Enjoy seeing Shreveport-Bossier grow in many ways. Mr. Good is good for the metro area! Too bad we can't elected he and Brian as "regional metro presidents"!

  8. Got a chance to meet up with fridayinla (Stephen) earlier this afternoon at the Boardwalk. Pretty cool guy, and a real visionary for sure!

Anyway, as I walked around the Boardwalk I snapped off a few photos trying out my new circular polarizer and lens hood.

Here's a shot I snapped of the Meatballs/Ten Pinz mascot as he tried to entice people over to their property...

Hi gentlemen-glad you got to meet. Say, Mr. Meatball is one cool dude. I would like a mini-sized MrM for my dash. Anyway, Merry Christmas to you all and a very happy New Year. Hugh Riverrat

  9. Starbucks doesn't charge anymore than any other coffee shop. Where else would you buy your coffee... besides maybe a gas station or fast food place.

This is very true FiLA, I have had more bad cups of coffee from the gas stations than anywhere. No one ever cleans the pots and some brands of coffee are not very tasty. This is one thing I can call myself passionate about. Had a great cup of coffee after dinner coffee (with Bailey's Irish Creme) at Don's Seafood sat. night. Tops off that wonderful bread pudding so well! :P

  10. Same here, riverrat. I stumbled upon Urban Planet, by complete accident, back at the beginning of March. You'll find that most of the members of Urban Planet seem to have stumbled upon the website via Google searches for projects and news related to their regions. That's exatly what happened to me, I was searching for Shreveport-Bossier related projects and came across Urban Planet. I immediately fell in love and felt at home, so I signed up and started posting right away. There are tons of "urban" forums on the internet, but this is just the only one I feel completely comfortable with.

Anyway, it's good to have you onboard with the rest of us, and I hope you'll find what you need here and even find things to tell us that we might have missed!

  11. WELCOME, Hugh!

I knew eventually I'd get someone to come out of hiding.

I'm sure you can always come up with something to add, or even questions to ask. I'm very up to date on many things in this area, and I know some of the other members here are very observant to developments going on as well.

I look forward to posting with you, Hugh, and I do hope you enjoy it here. Even if you post only every now and then, it's all good. Just contribute as you feel comfortable. Oh, and if you're a photographer, or a recreational photographer, feel free to add to the Shreveport-Bossier City Photo of the Day thread!

Again, Hugh, welcome! I do hope to see you around here more! :)

    Brian

  12. :D:D Well you caught me. My name is Hugh and I've been reading this wonderful site for quite sometime but I wasn't sure if I had anything really to add. I enjoy keeping up with all the happenings around SBC and to those of you who aren't from here; this is a great place to live! Thnak you for allowing me to be a part of this forum . I live in South Bossier. :D

Hi there. Yes, I'm talking to YOU! :) I know you're out there, because I see you every day and night checking out the topics on this board. As a matter of fact, the night of the Shreveport mayoral election, at one point I saw about 20 of you on here browsing, most likely reading up about the election. What a close race that was! I was so interested in it, I provided a play-by-play as the Shreveport Times updated their website with the latest information from the city's 131 polling precincts.

If you enjoy the discussions, feel free to register and become regular members. The Shreveport-Bossier subforum has gained quite a few members over the past few months since its creation, and new members are welcomed with open arms. If you have questions or additional information about projects and issues going on in the Shreveport-Bossier region, by all means register and post.

Urban Planet is free to join and contains an enormous wealth of information beyond this one subforum. There's really no reason not to join! Check out this extensive list of forums and subforums that Urban Planet has to offer!

I'll even make it easy on you. Click here to view the Registration Terms and Rules and register now.

I'm looking forward to posting with you in the future, as I'm sure are the other members of this subforum and all of Urban Planet!

And while you're at it, once you've registered, why not come back to this topic and post a quick introduction so we can get to know you!
