The county courthouse was deliberately built shorter than DuPont Centre (now BoA) so as not to offend the business community. The VUE (which is apparently 2' shorter than BoA according to a quick Google),

^Proof of principle that this arena is already changing the perception of Parramore -- someone is out walking around at night!
All these pictures are fantastic. This arena is hot!
Thank you,
Hardly that's why I only shot from one side. To many bums to feel safe I kept the camera detached from tripod to use as a weapon while I was being followed back to my car. It was of course 4 am.

Sorry for the dirty lens.

I think it's going to be a water feature. Not 100% on that though.
Its just art hanging from a fixture similar to the butterfly at Neiman Marcus or at Midway in Chicago.

Couple More.

Here are some pics not the greatest but for those who don't make it downtown.

It really sucks that The Beacon closed at the the Sanctuary, that's really devastating to me since we were getting so much restaurant and bar action in the Thornton Park/SoEo area. Does anyone know if it was lack of business or the reason the restaurant closed. I heard a couple new ones were opening downtown but I don't remember what or where they are downtown. I hope the cinema cafe survives. If St. Pete can support a downtown movie complex, then Orlando should have a strong chance. I'm sure many restaurants have closed on the Westside in LA, down Santa Monica Blvd, Melrose , etc. but there are so many it's not as noticeable I'm sure. They have a crappy economy in CA also because of the mortgage crises out there also, I believe they have a higher unemployment rate than us, can you believe Orlando is at 10.2%?! Tampa Metro is a little worse at 10.5%. I think the Florida metro with the best economy right now is Jacksonville with Orlando in 2nd place. We'll just have to suck it up. The Tijauana Flats, and Hue and the restaurants in Thornton Park and the CBD and Orlando is supposedly famous for its homemade oriental noodle houses in Colonial Town and College Park, and maybe some of them will venture into Winter Park and Maitland. I'm we have plenty in the downtown vicinity but we'll probably get an attitude on our nightlife from the SoCal crowd anyway. After all, there Metro is like 4 times larger than ours. Is the Clubhouse sports bar still open in the Solaire area? Anything else new downtown that I can't think of?
Beacon hasn't closed they are still open, Graze and Sanctuary Dinner closed. Some would say because of the rude service other would say from a huge charity event when time came to pay the check bounced who knows. The two restaurants across the street at 101 are supposed to be open for July 4!

Took these in the past few weeks.

Sorry for the horrible shots but an update none the less. Saw the form work going up for the second floor for the spire.
-
From what I saw, it is still there. The renderings were scanned and were not very good but it does not look as good as it did before.
Spire Anyone?

Wow, Metrowester. those shots are really nice. they make Orlando look less like the inland city people always crack on it for, and more cosmo and colorful-- no user error on that photowork either!
ptdavid took those shots not metrowester

there are signs that they are leasing retail space on level 2. yet, as late as this past weekend, I also heard that the cinema is in fact going forward. not sure what's up. perhaps a slight alteration of the space on level 2 as it stands. personally, I think they may be downsizing the cinema and leasing out the extra space to make it a theatre plus restaurants. 12 screens... Celebration has 2. how many big movies can be out at once anyway? 4? I say make is a 6 screen cinema and lease out 2-3 spaces.
So kracker had this right?
"Also consider that 12 screens is a little overkill if Enzian would take over. 4-6 Screens would be max and then you would have to figure out what to do with the rest of the space. Within the next year some big movie operator will fill this spot. Just be patient."

I think Baker Barrios is designing the new hotel for Universal. Found this on their website and it has the rides in the background as well as the twin Double Tree's, and what looks to be our downtown edited in.
This may not be news to anyone though.

I don't remember, what are the rules for posting photos and giving credit to the source of the picture?
-
They don't even have finalized construction plans it might just be site work.

The residential building plans were submitted to the City last week and we are anticipating having a building permit available by April. ZOM is extremely confident in the apartment market.
This article is a bit old but still gives a suggested date.
