  1. These units are priced (per sq ft) about the same as the steel and concrete towers going up.  Which would you rather live in?  Stick-built wood floors where you hear your  neighbor's stiletto pumps clopping across her floor above you, or peace and quiet with a thick layer of concrete separating you from her shoe fetish?

    nicely said

  2. As I read through some of the forums... I noticed a lot of ppl suggesting the uncapping of Sugar Creek hoping and thinking it would produce some kind of water front activity.

Does anyone have any more thoughts about this. Any examples (pics if possible) of it being down in a city around our side.

I personally think it would awsome to see but have no idea how or what it would take to do it to sugar creek.

    Just wanted some insite.

  3. I thought they said that they would not expand the convention center because of low attendence... and use the money that for that to go to the nchof. Thats how I look it at least... I know the article said something about a new ball room their but I figured that was redoing something already inside the convention center.

I think the site is great... i can picture great views coming in on south blvd with this big awsome new modern hof ... I think we are ahead in our planning when compared to the other cities... but maybe they are being more hush hush about it to see what we can come up with...

We've pretty much let our plan be open for the world to see

  4. But whats the likely hood of a trolly or LRT coming down Central? I have not looked at the proposed map for track lay out. I would love to see that area become more popular again.

I really think that most of uptowns surrounding neigborhoods are going to get more and more popular as the burbs expand and ppl want to live closer to the core without actually doing so. Thats one reason why noda is so popular (other than the great atmosphere and image it has created for itself). Some of those older areas have such great potential lets hope some developers see that and capitalize on it.

  5. The Target/Home Depot site will be built where the existing movie theatre is.....then there will be shops and offices where the closed mall is and across the street on the surface lot....there will be a 14-15 story residential tower where the Exxon station is as well......

At some point I think that a fair number of the strip centers on Kings will be redeveloped, but there is nothing currently in the works that I know of......The big piece of land between Kings, Independence and 3rd is for sale, and there have been rumors of serious interest, though no one has stepped forward yet......that is a key piece since it connects the Elizabeth Ave area to the Midtown Square redevelopment...

so Really theres just those three projects then... I really hope this area booms like the rest of dt... it could be an awsome area

  6. Hey,

Does anyone know the break down of projects going on in midtown Charlotte?

I know about the target/home dep. thing but is there anything else?

The green way is going through there right... is there any talk of high rises?

When I look at this little area of Charlotte I see such great potential being that its so close to dt. I would love to see this become a hot bed for retail, hotel, and residential.

Any word or thoughts on the matter?

  7. I really life this project... It kinda spreads out the towers while keeping the dense feel up uptown. With all the new projects going up the face of uptown charlotte will be completely different... and Better!

And yes there are still plenty of places to build here... so I hope they keep the developments coming but residential can not fill all of it... I would love to see some more mid office towers maybe a few more skycrappers... but other projects that bring more life to dt... we could do another 8 acre park and still have plently of room to build what ever we wanted for years to come.

    Charlotte is rockin!

  8. I would be very surprised if the city proposed to put this project anywhere else other than uptown. I'm sorry but if it goes into suburbia then there just wont be the traffic it would get if it were in uptown. Plus, imagine getting a national tv station and other things all within one large amazing setting. IF and when we get this project... it will be amazing.

I hope we win... its going to be hard to be daytona and I am sure atlanta is nipping at our heals to get this project aswell.

This project would be such a great addition to our urban center! I hope we get it... it would mean alot with all the history in the region

  9. Even though i think that such a tall tower would almost certainly be on trade, tryon, college or church, i doubt the polk site is a good option if it were geared to women.  The only women i can imagine who would get a place across from the bus station would be those who gain employment through the bus station...

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

But the bus station wont be there for too much longer...(few years maybe)... its all part of that mega multi use station going closer to gateway.

  10. It could be a possible site, though considering that they just announced that they wanted to donate it to JWU, it seems a little unlikely......however, I doubt the state would turn up their noses at an attractive bid......the site isn't bad, but I think it's likelier that this would go between 9th and 10th along Tryon.....

I'm really interested in that Polk site.....I always thought a hotel like a Sheraton would be the perfect use for that site.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That would make a good site for a hotel... its just too bad that the market for a new hotel just isn't there at the moment... However, maybe they can do like a combo residential/hotel project and just have to hotel be a second phase once that market picks up... which I know it will ... esp with all the new developements to bring ppl in.

The polk building is a good site for just about anything... I would much rather have the state take bids on it than for them just to hand it over to JW
