Thanks JCT. I'll make sure to check out those trails.

Sounds like the Trails are coming along nicely. What a great addition this will be for the city. I'll actually be moving to Greenville from Little Rock next month and will definately be checking them out. Does anyone happen to know of any off road running trails in the Greenville area? My knees can only take so much pavement.

A new billboard on I-30 is advertising a Bennigan's that will be coming to JFK and Pershing in NLR. I guess this is a good spot in proximity to I-40, but it's pretty isolated as far as other restaurants, retail, etc. to compliment it. I wish they would've choosen a location in downtown NLR, but I am glad to see Bennigan's re-opening in the area.

Wow, that's unfortunate if true. However, I'd bet half of this is true and half is hype - like most things. It makes you think though, I've never seen any security there, which is definetely not a great thing. BTW, what did she mean by "southeast" corner? There aren't really any stores on the SE corner. What store were you in?
The store was Franchesca's (sp?) and she said Evolve and the one beside it were the stores robbed, and they attempted to rob Lewis and Clark but were unsuccessful. Apparently they went in the back doors to the locations. You're right there's not a southeast corner. These stores are actually located on the far north end. I suppose those stores would be the easiest targets with back streets just behind them, it would be pretty easy for the robbers to get away.

I went to Midtowne with my wife and some friends last night around 7:45. One of the stores was locked up, but the owner of the store saw us and came to let us in. We asked if she was closing early and she said no, the reason she has the door locked was because several of the stores on the southeast corner have been robbed this week at Gun point.
What's even more disturbing, is she said the owners of the development have not responded to any of the stores phone calls about the robberies and several of her employees have quit for fear of their safety and a lack of response from the owners. Assuming everything she said is true, this is very disturbing.

V3 Partners of NLR is looking into the possibility of grocery-anchored project in downtown NLR. They control a large number of properties in the Argenta area. In the mean time they will be starting the permit process tomorrow before the Historic District Commission for a planned 58 unit development on Maple St. Planned construction to start this fall or winter.
A nice grocery store in downtown NLR would be a good idea imo. I'm sure it would draw several customers from the new highrises in LR as well. Especially if the trolley connected the two locations.

According to the Web site, their grand opening has been delayed by construction. However, the site says they still plan to have a St. Patrick's Day celebration on the 17th. For more information, see www.cregeenspubs.com.
I couldn't remember the name of the pub. Thanks for the update. It's a shame they won't be open by St. Patty's, but it'll be nice to have actual "pub" in LR/NLR once it opens.

I noticed the space where the Irish Pub is going to be located in downtown NLR is still torn up. Are they still planning on opening by St. Patrick's Day?

Looking at the website and some of the reviews I'm skeptical of its long-term potential. However, once it's converted to a restaurant if Wendell's doesn't work out something else will take over that spot.
I'm very confused after doing a google search for reviews. I've heard the saying, "you either love it or you hate it", but even that doesn't explain the huge gap in reviews between these two sites.

When does parking on Main St become an issue? It's certainly not there yet but if things keep going this way it will have to be addressed.
Is it possible that some type of parking structure(s) would be built and shared between Main St., Alltel, and Dickey Stephens Park?
-
If we can get the right development at the University Mall site I think it would be really interesting to sink the University and Markham intersection some and build pedestrian bridges connecting the 3 developments. I wouldn't mind seeing a TIF to make those improvements and make general improvements to Markham and University.
I agree.

Wild Oats is going into a building that has yet to be built.
Enough with the complaints about parking (you're not the only one to comment on this)... Large areas of black top for parking is what you enjoy out west and is affectionately called suburban. Midtowne is desgned to have an urban feel. You can't whip around all willy-nilly. Another way to look at it is that parking is a good problem to have.
Woops. Didn't know the Wild Oats building hasn't been constructed yet.
Sorry, didn't realize the parking issue has been discussed ad nausem. Just noticed it when I was there.

I drove by tonight around 9:00 on my way back to the office....not too much traffic, but of course the stores were closing. Lots of people at Starbucks. Pei Wei can't open soon enough! Evolve actually has a pretty cool logo/sign at its location, which gives me hope that it might be a pretty nice store. Lewis & Clark looks further along than I had envisioned.
My wife and I went on Tuesday night to "look around". Looking around usually costs $50-$100. At least she wasn't going to "shop". Anyway it was after 8:00 when we arrived, and there was probably about 40 or so other people looking around, the majority of which were under age 35. It's going to be a nice development. I wonder though if parking will be an issue on Saturdays and around the holidays?
I looked inside the future Wild Oats location, and maybe I lack the imagination, but it seemed a bit small. Are they going to add a "semi-second level" like Lewis and Clark appears to be doing?

If its retail, I'll go with either Apple or Restoration Hardware.
If its dining (more likely at this location?), I'll go with Rainforest Cafe - longshot I know.....
It's definately retail according to this:

This happened in Rogers, where a Malco Theatre complex was built in the Promenade mall, which is around 2 miles from the Malco 12 digital screen Towne Centre in Scottsdale Center.
Do both theaters recieve enough business to justify having two? Is the traffic pretty well divided between them?
I forgot that in addition to the Rave, Breckenridge is just another mile or two north. 3 Movie Theaters on a 5 mile stretch of I-430 is a lot for Little Rock.
-
I'm a little surprised about a theater complex being proposed for this site. Arguably the nicest theater in the state is less than 2 miles away.

When does Wild Oats open, anyone?
I'll have to go check out Midtowne this weekend
A few posts up, mcheiss said it will be early '07.

I wouldn't at all be shocked if J Crew was the tenant, that makes good sense. I don't know about the J Jill connection.
The only reason I say that is because my wife was under that impression and I don't debate her when it comes to shopping. I think that was part of our wedding vows. That said, she could be wrong.
-
Nope.
The space is too small and since Park Plaza was Dillard's pet project when it was built Dillard's has the exclusive department store rights.
That space is too small for a department store but is fairly large for a standard store. My guess is Anthropologie.
With J. Jill located just across the street, I wonder if J. Crew might be the new tenant for Park Plaza. I could be dreaming this up, but aren't these two stores usually located in relatively close proximity to each other?
-
Not that this is any big surprise, but the plumbing review site lists JC Penny for Shackleford Crossing. There has been no official announcement about the retailers coming to the center, but this seems to make the Penny location nearly a certainty.
Hopefully that means they're leaving University Mall, further strengthing the argument against Simon.

The Arkansas Times comments on the vacant space in the lower level of Park Plaza.

Interesting factoid from the pub's website:

I wish they would put it somewhere other than the river market. It just seems like that space could be much more successful as additional restaurants or entertainment. Maybe it's just the stereotype that I have in my head, but when I think of nightlife and an urban entertainment district, stuffed deer and aquariums filled with carp and bass just don't seem to fit.

The restaurant by the same name(?) will not be apart of the Great American Grills chain associated with Hilton Garden Inns. Also, Cregeen's Irish Pub is to open on St. Patrick's Day

Kind of a random thought, but I think Boulevard Bread could be successful at Promenade.
