  1. MAJOR DEVELOPMENT NEWS

I came across the following plans tonight for two separate developments- one with a grocery anchor and retail at the corner of the bypass and 301 South, and one at the current location of Franklin Chevrolet. The big news though, is that the development at the corner of the bypass and 301, is said to be across the road from a proposed 200 acre mixed use development, including a Super Target. I'm guessing this is actually the Lanier Drive piece.

The website has been updated recently, so I suppose these are still a go. I'm still trying to search for some info on that 200 acre development.

  2. I had a feeling that that piece would end up being something big. This might be the new mall we've all been waiting for.

I hope those two deals come through - it's time for some new industry here. It was between us and Effingham for the new EFACEC plant, but we lost out. Hopefully we'll snag these two.

  3. The BB&T branch has been in the works for a while. I heard they have a deal with Hull-Story to vacate the mall branch when the new one is built. It seems odd they would leave what would seem to be a very good location. But when H-S is involved, odd things sometimes happen.
  4. Centennial Village Phase I

I just wanted to update everyone that Georgia Southern has announced the first phase of Centennial Village. This academic year will be the last year for Johnson Hall, Olliff Hall, and Winburn Hall. The three residence halls will be demolished after this academic school year to make way for Phase I of Centennial Village. This phase will construct a 1,000 bedroom residence hall. This building will be one of the largest in Statesboro, as it will house more residents than any residential complex in Bulloch County. Campus Club is currently the largest residential complex as it houses just under 1000 people in 17 buildings. This will house 1000 students in ONE residence hall. Im not sure how tall it will be, but I was told that it may be up to 6-stories if the soil permits. It will probably be one of the taller buildings in Statesboro as well.

  5. Did anybody run into the traffic on the bypass this afternoon? It took me 15 minutes to get from Brannen Street to 67 - and I didn't hit the stop-and-go part of it until about the big pond. At one point I looked in my rear view mirror and it looked as if it could have easily reached 80.

I know it's move-in weekend, but honestly, I've never seen it that bad.

  6. Hey guys, just wondering is the Shell House still empty or did someone come in and occupy the building yet! If its still closed - do yall know what happened... Shell house is a good place here in Savannah,so I was wondering why it didnt work out to well in Statesboro......

btw, hows the new chilis coming along! cant wait to see it open...applebees & ruby tuesday is probably going to take a huge hit... oh yeah whats the updates on the Target out there?

  7. I understand what they're getting at with this.

It's just that we're FINALLY getting the bypass widened. After adding some of the traffic from Cawana, we're going to be right to where we are today in 5 (or less) years. Except it'll be worse.

  8. I don't know if they're getting started on that subdivision or not at the corner of 24 and the bypass. They've got that ENTIRE lot cleared. They've been working on it all week.

It actually looks better without the trees, IMO. You should ride over to that side of town and check it out.

  9. I don't live but a couple of minutes away from where all of those pictures up there were taken.

I had just gotten home from town before it started, and I'm glad I did. The wind was blowing so hard it actually blew the rain under our backdoor and made a pretty big puddle in the floor. It took us almost 2 hours to pick up the "debris" from the yard.

  10. A quick question, do you guys think it would be better if I merged this topic with the "Statesboro, GA" topic since they both seem to be on the same subject (development news, etc.)?

What would happen is all of the posts in this topic would be integrated into the "Statesboro, GA" topic.
