  1. It looks like RDU will be losing 777 service to London. Starting in November is will be downgraded to a 767.

rdu is losing much more than that - aa service to kansas city, jacksonville, louisville, ne arkansas, newark and austin and i think united service to denver and delta service to slc.

terrible timing with the new terminal coming online in a couple of months. i know the airport wanted to announce flights to paris or frankfurt but that probably wont be happening now. . .

  2. Sacremento disappers from Clt schedule after Sept. 2 :( .....but it does look like some routes like Iah are getting an extra mainline flight.

wasnt this flight always a seasonal flight? of course, if it was designed to be year-round, who would be surprised that it was cut being such a long-thin route

  3. this is just anecdotal but the belk at crabtree is nothing compared to the sp belk - for example, the selection of hugo boss suits appeared an afterthought at crabtree whereas at sp, there are seemingly hundreds. the crabtree store just doesnt have a luxurious feel especially for a "flagship store". Anyway, they are both poor compared to nordstroms.

  4. From what I see, the official height will be 677 feet. I think that puts it in the top 5 tallest in Charlotte. Yea, I think everyone here is pretty excited about it :)

was that height before or after the removal of the spires? if that is after the spires, that will be one tall builing with an avg floor heigh above 13ft/fl

  5. so what was the deal at clt last evening - i was at dulles on the runway ready to take off and the captain came over the radio and said a "ground stop" had been issued at clt. We never did get an explanation but when we finally got to clt last evening, everything was delayed and the weather was perfect.

  6. remember, usair is a star alliance member. charlotte cant sustain o/d service to these destinations and in many cases would need a codeshare agreement (additional feed) to make it work. so if you look at the star alliance website (www.staralliance.com), locations such as portugal (tap airlines), zurich/geneva (swiss air), stockholm (sas), warsaw (lot), and vienna (austrian) would seem like the most likely candidates. star alliance has no partners in lat am but plenty in asia (though it will be a cold day in hell before clt gets direct asian service).

to further ramble, i dont see santiago (too far, too small), rio (bumped in favor of sao paulo) or buenos aires (i would love ba direct bc its such an amazing city) any time soon. sao paulo is more likely but still a stretch. quito just wont happen (too small of market, city of 1 million). Lima could happen (much larger city).

  7. Looks like Charlotte will likely get another international route.

USAirways has applied to government approval to start a Charlotte-Bogota, Columbia flight.

Currently, Bogota is only connected by US carriers, from Miami, Atlanta, NY (Newark), and Houston

The announcement was in the CBJ.......it didn't mention specific aircraft, but I'm assuming it will be on a 757 or A321.

wow that is from out in left field. I'm excited to get another route but I dont think this one will be a tourist heavy route. . .

  8. So I made it to Woods on South today and it was pretty good. Met Marvin, funny colored chefs hat and all, he was a really nice guy. They didn't do an extensive renovation, it is still a huge space for moderate sized serving floor, but they seemed to have changed a decent amount in short time. The atmosphere was good, the food was good, pretty close to excellent. I before questioned the pairing between a brewery and $30 entrees, and I still do. However I do not question the pairing with this restaurant, because there is not a single item on the menu for $30. Sandwiches were 8-10, appetizers were 4-13, entrees were 16-26, and pizzas were 9-12. There was a decent wine list and 10 Carolina Brewing company branded beers, which were all very good, I had the $8 sampler of 8 beers, plus the two that were not included in the sampler.

We ate quite early, starting at about 5:30, and they place was pretty slow, but by the time we left around 7, the place was getting pretty packed, and marvin was greeting tables.

Summary: Overall it was a good experience. Two people, an Appetizer, Two Entrees, 2 glasses of chardonnay, and basically 4 beers, 25% tip, and it was a good bit south of $100.

    Rating: 4 outta 5

i appreciate the review - ive been a bit apprehensive about heading to check it out at $30/entree but ill have to check it out now. THANKS!!!

  9. The 3rd Quarter Earnings Report for Colonial Properties Trust (Developer for Enclave) notes that only 1 of 85 units is under contract as of September 30, 2007. A footnote within the report indicates the following:

    (4) Upon completion of the project, the Company in considering the lease of all units as multifamily apartment homes.

I would be pi$$ed off if I was the one person holding a contract and just realized that all of my neighbors may be renters...

On a brighter note, the same report lists the number of units under contract at Midtown Metropolitan at 75 out of 101.

im sorry but that is what they get for screwing everyone out of their contracts! that building was initially affordable and one of the properties i was seriously considering but now they are going to have to deal with apts, serves them right.

ps why would anyone pay $350/sf to live in a stick built home when they could live in trademark, courtside, or elswhere

  10. Not to be negative, but I am pretty sure they will add more international flights out of PHL at off peak times before they add them in CLT, for the simple reason of more O&D traffic. Figure a 8pm flight arrives in Europe around 8am the next day with the time change. Add a flight at say 8am in when gates are empty in PHL that arrives around 8pm in Europe. The return would leave around midnight in Europe and arrive around 5am into PHL.

those double daily flights work when there is enough o@d traffic but that 8am departure does not allow for any connecting traffic. I think you are probably right that phl will get some off peak timed departures at some point.

  11. How is USAirway's pax load on the Gatwick flight?

EDIT. The idea of LOT coming would be exciting since all their widebody orders are for the new 787s.

i believe that once the 787's begin to arrive we will see many more international flights. Due to their efficiencies, other star alliance carriers will be sending planes our way. Sadly, usair is ordering the a350 and wont be getting any of those until 2011 at the earliest.

Regarding where we will get, paris and rome are unlikely unless we can support them organically since air france nor alitalia are star alliance partners. thinking of star alliance partners, flights to vienna, warsaw, heathrow, zurich/geneva, portugal, stockholm ar all possibilities once the 787 comes online. the most likely of these is heathrow and secondly i would think switzerland. personally, i believe clt can support a flight, at least in the summertime to paris so those would be the three euro flights i see in the next 3 years

  12. That would be a great entrance into this market. IMO they have some nice products and would be the answer to a Crate & Barrel type store in close proximity to downtown.

west elm is like crate and barrel except cheaper (if i recall). i have bought some stuff from their catalogues and have been very impressed - how exciting for charlotte!
