Well- this may just be the Times' spin-
I'm not sure- I believe the zoning height change was called for Vacant lots in the area and not for the Preserved ones...
As I saw it, the developers wanted a tall zoned lot in exchange for redeveloping a warehouse in the district....
I'll report later as I find out more.

Ok you guys, i've kind of let my duties as moderator slip lately and I apologize. I guess I've just been a little bit disheartened. But in my defense there doesn't really seem to be much news going on. It's so weird for a state that's growing as fast as Arizona there should be gobs of development news. Don't get me wrong, there's tons of developements but they come in the form of sprawling lifestyle centers and strip malls with acres and acres of parking. I think i'm going to get some updates on current projects this week.
Does anyone have any news on new proposals and such?
There has been a ton of activity as of late- just not much activity on this forum.
Namely our baby:

I think so...
It sucks you have to wonder- mainly because most of Phoenix has sprawl mentality..
(Drive everywhere, oppose building upwards, keep building the city outward instead of upwards with higher density... )
-But I think it would make sense for a lot of people to use the rail...

It's not the Ernest & Young building?
Colin- the hotel is abandoned...
Probably getting ready for demolish from what I hear...
Too bad huh?
-
haha no. It's kind of a rough call. I'll give a hint, it's not in uptown.
It's Downtown and it is the building with the umbellical walk way... What is it called?
My photos of the day...
Warehouses/ abandoned buildings Downtown- wouldn't these make cool lofts/ mixed use rennovations?
Can't any of these Phx developers gets some BALLS?

cool link I found from azcentral, actually I borrowed it from loftguys site. kind of a development wrap up
you might enjoy. Recent article talks about the proposed W hotel, how it won't be an obstruction for incoming air traffic. There are some other hurdles for it. Anyone in the know?

I work at Sky harbor. From the parking ramp on T4 I can see three distinct skylines in Phoenix, Downtown. Uptown and the third one which is dense in appearance, but doesnt have a midrise over 200ft. I believe that to be Biltmore. Is that a correct assumption?
I don't think it is any dender than Downtown- current height limit seems to be 15 stories in the Biltmore area. Lots and lots of NIMBY's!
It is the "classy" area of Phoenix... Although Old Town is making a push for that it seems. (Arguably)

I've just been busy watching our local Real Estate market go to complete crap...
-I'm actually more of a reply guy-
I clean em up or answer/ comment when I can...
Don't make me become a new idea guy!

The W hotel is slated for development on top of the Sun- Merc building (Downtown warehouse district). -There is a lawsuit right now over the plans- but I imagine this will get ironed out eventually- I am very much hoping this will happen because I love W hotels and we need one (Scottsdale is getting one why can't Phx?)
As for The Sheraton- the city is building this to help aid the Convention center guests... You posted of it (32 stories)
-
Well- The Sheraton of course, and a W hotel if you keep your fingers and toes crossed at night.

Here are a few pics of Chase Field from Row 1, seat 1 and 2. (Batter's box)
(Brewers game Friday night where D-Backs won with a walk off homer in the bottom of the 9th.)
My girlfriend and I somehow lucked in to getting invited to the game and given these seats... Free drinks and food. I think that night rivals the most I ever ate!

Good picks Colin (architecture)
I think the Sandra Day O Conner Courthouse is somewhat famous (maybe in a negative way for being so impossible to cool when it opened)
And the Downtown Phoenix library is pretty renowned... (Will Bruder)
We have a few local (dead and alive) Modern architects that are pretty well- known (Aside from FLW)- Al Beadle, Ralph Haver and Will Bruder... And Optima seems to be getting some good press (Biltmore Towers and Camelview by David Hovey)

It's supposed to get us the huge conventions that we always lost in years passed...
I'm talking the mammoth ones.
-It will be interesting!

New Convention Center (Civic Plaza) rennovation

He stuck in there- he had some appointees trying to smooth things over for about a year...
He even bid on a lot in Downtown Phx that was zoned for 50 stories (Grace beat him out).
-But that little sliver in the Biltmore area just happened to be the worst pocket known to man as far as the NIMBY's go...
So he left- and I don't blame him one bit!
I was told that Phil Gordon threw him under the bus to clear the way for the ASU ballot.
-I don't claim to know much about politics though...
