  1. Is it possible that Delta is trying to diversify. Meaning, giving the customer other options instead of flying thru ATL or JFK which are plagued with delays. Maybe by routing flights to Pittsburgh and RDU then customers can pick up a connecting flights which means that Delta could be adding some flights to RDU. Just a theory. I know that Delta added Salt Lake to Paris last summer, though SLC is a western hub for them.

  2. The problem I see with the two stops in Cary is the lack of available parking. I know Charlotte is dealing with that problem six months into their one route. There is no way DT cary would make sense unless they build a parking deck that would allow 200-300 cars. The NW Cary Pkwy would have to house 500-600 cars. We are talking about a town that has 130,000 and will have close to 150,000 by the time this things gets rolling. No parking creates a lot of unwanted problems and additional manpower to police the no parking zones.

  3. Southwest to add direct flight to Denver starting May 10. Hopefully Southwest will open more flight destinations from RDU. RDU to Seattle would be highly desirable. I am a little surprised that RDU to Denver can support two airlines. There must be a high demand for this trip.

I think Virgin Atlantic will provide the RDU to SFO flight. My thinking is that they are waiting for our terminal 2 to open before porviding service along with there being other larger cities that they can focus on now. Maybe by Dec 2008 they would come to RDU.

The consolidation news is interesting I think because the airlines are dropping a lot of low interest routes and increasing the high interest rotues. Maybe that will pan out for RDU.Southwest cut 44 routes and moved them to exisitng routes. Denver is a hot spot for them right now. Just some thoughts of mine as in the past week as I read aobut the possible merger of Delta with either Northwest or United.

  4. The article I read said that NetJets is looking to work with local universities. I wonder why. I mean I think that our three universities could easily compare to Ohio State in Columbus. Any thoughts of why they would want to work with the universities. I also think cost of living may be an issue. RDU is halfway between Boston and Miami and I think that bodes well for RDU. Not sure how vitaviatic knows their clientele but it sounds like they are a global company from their website. I am not sure what NetJets is planning to do. In the articles I am a bit confused because it says they wnat to build new buildings but other articles say that they are looking possibly to relocate the whole Operations center ( 2000 people). It will be interesting to see what happens. Supposedly the ante is up to $57 million from Ohio. I mean we can recruit with the best of them and our track record is obvious.

Just a random thought, how about throw in the whole Transpark in Kinston as part of the offer. Get it off the state gov't books and give it to NetJets. They should have done that with Boeing when they were looking at our state to build the 787 Dreamliner. Washington state had to give $1 billion in improvements to keep them from coming here.

Can't wait to see the result.

  5. If Lenovo gains more clout and possibly attracts other Asian companies here, it just may happen.

That is exactly who I was thinking of, (my current employer.) I call it Bejing south in the morning when I come in thru the Lobby. Alot of resources is spent to send the Chinese over to the American HQs.

  6. I think their bldg is up at Falls and Millbrook, or very close to there. Captain brings up a good point about the dbl-edged sword of adding suburban jobs. I think it's still obviously good, as some of those people may want to live in one of the downtowns, Raleigh or Durham. Eventually, we've got to have transit connecting the DTs to RTP... even if people have to get on a short shuttle to their work in RTP, at least some percentage of people will choose that option. I'm more mixed-use comunities will pop up near the park as well, such as Triangle Metro Center/Davis Park.

Totally agree with the RTP jobs... That is why I think Morrisville should look into building 10-15 story bldgs with central park/courtyard area for kids to run around in. They could really capitalize on their location and not be like everyone else in Wake County.

  7. I know that the RDU aithoirty has been working very hard to get three non stop routes added.... 2 of the 3 have been accomplished with Delta picking up the LAX route, United picking up the Denver route, and so that leaves the non stop service to SFO. I am sure they have some very strong numbers to support their case, mainly from business travelers. I do know we were on the list with Virgin America when they first issued cities they would like to serve so hopefully that translates to being on the short list.

Does any airline fly direct to Mexico from RDU?

  8. I am surprised that the terminal renovation is only adding 6 additional gates up from 26 to 32. It did mention that the new terminal will be able to handle 12 million passengers so there is plenty of room for growth at RDU because we have never ever hit 11 million with two terminals. Terminal A is crowded with airlines and the new terminal can not open fast enough. I hope Virgin America chooses us in the next round of routes because then we would get the route all have been crying for: Direct to SFO. I think that it would be a good move on their part but will have to see. Maybe VA will wait until we open the terminal.
