- 09-22-08 NBJ: 'Green roof' retail center coming to Gulch
- A $1.1 million development coming to the Gulch will give Nashville its first retail center with a sustainable green roof.
- The building will offer 7,000 square feet of space for four tenants opening in summer 2009, says architect Steve Powell of Powell Design Studio PLLC.
- The site for the two-story center is at 1000 Division Street, currently a Citgo gas station.
- Developer NextGen Properties says the project will be built to national environmental building standards and is working with LEED consultant Wilmont Inc.
- will use recycled steel, concrete and asphalt materials from the existing site. In addition to the green roof, the NextGen building will have permeable concrete parking areas with adjacent rain gardens and engineered building systems for a low carbon footprint
- Powell Design Studio has done a great job blending the industrial look of adjacent warehouses while reflecting the modern style of The Icon, Terrazzo and Velocity. And, the view for the high-rise occupants will now include a beautiful green roof with a mixture of native Tennessee plants and sedums
